One of the questions I get is:

“How do I take care of my wig?”

And the answer depends a LOT on what your wig is made from. 👇

🌿 HUMAN HAIR

Human hair can be treated more like your own hair, but that doesn’t mean it needs no maintenance!

✨ Regular washing and conditioning
✨ Gentle brushing and detangling
✨ Professional styling when needed
✨ Protection from excessive heat and dryness

Human hair can be beautiful and versatile — but it does require more ongoing care.

💫 SYNTHETIC

Synthetic hair is often wonderfully easy to maintain because it’s designed to hold its style.

✨ Less styling required
✨ Let it air dry after washing
✨ Use products specifically made for synthetic hair
✨ Avoid regular heat tools unless the wig is specifically designed for heat

🔥 HEAT-FRIENDLY / HD SYNTHETIC

This type can offer a little more styling flexibility, but heat doesn’t mean unlimited heat!

✨ Use the appropriate temperature
✨ Always use products designed for synthetic hair
✨ Avoid excessive heat and repeated styling
✨ Let the fibres cool completely after styling

And here’s the BIGGEST tip…

❤️ Know what your wig is made of BEFORE you start styling or washing it.

Using the wrong products, too much heat, or the wrong technique can affect the fibres and the way your wig looks.

There’s unpacking, organizing, checking colours, steaming, styling, adjusting, cutting, cleaning up…

…and yes, occasionally standing there looking at a wig and thinking:

“Okay… what are we going to do with you?” 😂

I thought it might be fun to start showing you a little more of what happens behind the scenes here at From the Neck Up.

Because it’s not just about putting a wig on someone’s head.

There’s a lot of little details that go into making sure the final result feels comfortable, natural and right for that person. ❤️

💙 Today’s Post — Looking After Your Wig

A little wig TLC goes a long way! ✨

Whether you’re wearing your wig every day or saving it for special occasions, taking good care of it can help keep it looking and feeling its best.

A few simple things to remember:

🫧 Use products made specifically for wigs. Regular shampoos and styling products aren’t always suitable for alternative hair.

🪮 Be gentle when brushing. Start at the ends and work your way up, rather than pulling through from the top.

🔥 Be careful with heat. Not every wig or hairpiece can handle heat styling, so always know what you’re working with before reaching for the hot tools.

💧 Don’t overwash. How often you need to wash your piece depends on how often you wear it and what type of hair it is.

✨ Give it a proper place to rest. Storing your wig or hairpiece properly when you’re not wearing it helps protect the shape and style.
