🇳🇬 A Nigerian Known as “The Black Mentor” Has Been Sentenced to 4 Years in U.S. Federal Pr!son

A recent U.S. fr@ud case is a powerful lesson that a successful image is not the same thing as a verified business.

Joseph James Nantomah, known online as “The Black Mentor,” was sentenced on September 18, 2026, to 48 months in federal pr!son over an investment fr@ud scheme that resulted in losses of more than $2.7 million to at least 39 vict!ms in the U.S. and abroad. He was also ordered to pay more than $2.76 million in restitution.

According to U.S. prosecutors, Nantomah entered the United States from Nigeria in 2016 on a visitor visa and later presented himself online as a successful multimillion-dollar real estate entrepreneur.

He hosted conferences and classes about building wealth in America. Prosecutors said he subsequently used that platform to persuade people to invest money in what he presented as real estate opportunities.

Court records say many of the vict!ms were Nigerian immigrants and members of his church. Prosecutors said the money was not used as promised and that more than $2 million was used for personal purposes.

The lesson here isn't to distrust every entrepreneur or investment opportunity. It's to do your own due diligence. Before investing your hard-earned money:

▪︎ Ask for proper documentation
▪︎ Understand exactly where your money is going
▪︎ Be cautious of guaranteed or unusually high returns
▪︎ Don't invest simply because someone appears wealthy online
▪︎ Seek independent professional advice when necessary

A flashy lifestyle, expensive events, motivational speeches or a large social-media following should never be the only reason you trust someone with your m0ney.

Do you ever go to your child’s school to complain because your child didn’t eat their lunch, didn’t finish their food, or came home with food left in their lunchbox? 😂

I remember after my service year in Nigeria, I got my first job as a teacher at a private elementary school in Lagos. Some of the complaints from parents were so detailed that, honestly, you would think teachers were also employed as nannies. 😂

And sometimes, the school management seemed to listen more to the parents than to the teachers who were actually with the children every day.

Coming to Canada, I noticed a different approach. Children are generally encouraged to develop independence and take responsibility for simple things they can manage themselves. Teachers are primarily there to educate and support students not to act as babysitters for every little thing.

Of course, serious concerns about a child's safety, learning, wellbeing, or treatment should always be raised with the school. But not every unfinished lunch or small classroom issue necessarily requires a parent-teacher meeting. 😅

Alberta Drivers, There’s Some Relief Coming

Starting October 1, 2026, Alberta is suspending its 13-cent-per-litre provincial fuel tax on gasoline and diesel.

That means drivers could see up to 13 cents less per litre at the pump, with the suspension currently set to continue until December 31, 2026.

With fuel prices putting pressure on household and business budgets, this could make a noticeable difference for people who drive regularly.

The Canadian government has issued a safety warning to Canadians travelling or living in Nigeria following reports of 48 de@ths linked to the consumption of locally prepared alc%holic and herbal drinks.

Canada’s updated travel advisory advises Canadians to avoid unregulated or adulter@ted alc%hol, buy alc%hol from reputable establishments, and seek medical attention immediately if they begin to feel unwell after drinking.

The warning comes after health authorities in Ondo State reported 182 people affected in connection with the suspected t0xic alc%hol outbreak. Investigations are ongoing.

This is a serious wake up call that not every alc%holic drink is necessarily safe simply because it is being sold.

U.S. President Donald Trump has criticized Canada’s immigration policies, claiming that the country is allowing “millions and millions” of people in essentially unchecked and unvetted, and that this is contributing to problems including unemployment.

However, Canadian authorities say people entering Canada are subject to security screening, and Canada has also reduced immigration and temporary-resident intake in recent years.

Canada’s immigration authorities are once again warning people about marriage fr@ud and “relationships of convenience” used primarily to obtain immigration status.

The warning comes as reports from Punjab, India, highlight alleged cases where marriages were reportedly connected to plans for Canadian sponsorship.

According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), a relationship of convenience can include a marriage, common-law or conjugal relationship entered into mainly to help someone immigrate to Canada rather than being based on a genuine relationship. Immigration officers can use document checks and interviews to assess whether a relationship is genuine.

IRCC is advising potential sponsors to think carefully before marrying and sponsoring someone, particularly where they have just met, and the person is pushing for a quick marriage, or little information is known about their background or family.

Spousal sponsorship is a serious legal undertaking. A sponsor can have financial responsibilities for the sponsored spouse for three years, even if the relationship later ends.

Canada is a country many people dream of moving to, but marriage should never become an immigration strategy at the expense of honesty, trust and genuine commitment.

TRAGIC NEWS: GHANAIAN PROFESSOR SH%T IN ILLINOIS, WIFE ARRESTED

A tragic story involving a Ghanaian academic in the United States is making headlines.

Dr. Kofi Akamani, a 48-year-old Ghanaian professor at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, was fat@lly sh%t in Illinois on Saturday, September 19, 2026, according to reports citing the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said his 35-year-old wife, Betty Akamani, was arrested in connection with the incident and is facing charges related to the sh%%ting. The investigation is still ongoing, and the allegations against her have not been proven in court.

Dr. Akamani was a professor in Southern Illinois University's forestry program. His academic journey began in Ghana, where he studied at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, before earning graduate degrees in Norway and the United States.

It is heartbreaking to see the life of an accomplished academic come to such a tr@gic end. As investigations continue, more details may emerge about what happened.
