Week 20 in Ordinary Time
Matthew 20.1-15
*THE FIRST WILL BE LAST AND THE LAST, FIRST*
*Check in the gospel, why were those labourers sad? Nothing. They were paid their just wages but they were angry simply because someone who came late was also paid the same amount. Now they went home grumbling and bitter. They thought that they were better off than those who came later into the vineyard, they felt they deserved better and higher pay. But, God’s way is that of grace and unlimited generosity; God’s blessing does not follow human logic. People are not blessed based on age or qualifications or even efforts. This does not mean God rewards laziness or favours irresponsibility. The men who came late into the vineyard were not lazy, they were not in their houses waiting for miracle to happen, they were on the road looking for someone to hire them, they have the skills, they were ready to work, they have the patience and endurance to wait till late in the evening, they were determined to earn something no matter how little. They never even bargained for a wage when they finally got a job, they were happy that they will go home with something. Sometimes we are bitter for nothing; you are employed and you get bitter that someone younger than you is earning the same salary with you. You are praised and you are bitter that someone is praised more than you. You get a rich husband and you are bitter that someone get a richer husband than yours. Lack of contentment and fulfilment can make us bitter for nothing; we become aggressive instead of being appreciative. Stop comparing yourself with others, stop measuring your success based on those you think are better than you. Unhealthy competition can breed unnecessary bitterness, envy and frustration. May God deliver us from unfulfilled, bitter, negative and ungrateful life in Jesus name Amen.*

Matthew 19.23-30
FOR MEN THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE, FOR GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE
*Jesus says, for men it is impossible but not for God. With God all things are possible. Salvation is not a human achievement but a gift from God. It is beyond the power of any man but Jesus’ death has given us access to Divine grace thereby making the impossible to become possible. A Christian is a possibility thinker. The disciples of Jesus were already seeing and thinking impossible but Jesus had to show them that what is thought impossible is possible. Faith in God produces a positive and powerful energy that transforms impossible situations to possibilities. One who believes in God is capable of so many extraordinary things. We don’t believe in God so that we can do only the ordinary things, if God is involved, then wonderful and amazing things are involved. Most of the things thought was impossible before are now history like men flying. In the spiritual struggles, God’s grace does greater wonders, He enlightens the darkness of our lives and transforms our weaknesses into power. The riches and power of God’s grace is boundless. The person you follow determines what you believe and what you can do. You need someone who can bring out the genius in you, someone who will tell you that you can move mountains, if not, you will continue to under perform and underachieve. May the Lord Jesus take us to the realm of possibility, may we move mountains and slay giants in Jesus name Amen.*

Time. Matthew 19.16-22

*HE WENT AWAY SAD; A MAN OF GREAT WEALTH*

*Jesus told the rich man to sell everything and give the money to the poor and then follow Him. He went away sad. Maybe Jesus had seen that this man’s wealth was an obstacle to his desire for perfection. There were other rich people who followed Jesus and who never sold everything to follow Jesus. Certain things can become obstacles to our sincere desire for perfection, growth, maturity and advancement. Most times, like this man, giving up those things could be very painful. Yet, we have to do so if we really want to grow and excel. Some prices are just too high. Imagine this rich man who had come with full desire to inherit the Kingdom, yet he went away sad when he was told the cost. You might blame him but I tell you some prices are just high and takes the grace of God. Even the disciples once told Jesus, ‘if it is like that, no one can be saved’, but Jesus replied, yes, for man it is difficult but with God all things are possible. Mind you, this rich man has kept all the laws, Jesus even looked at him and liked him, but that one thing, his wealth, how can he just leave all the comfort and luxury, it was too much for him. Sometimes, we are also ready to do so much, or we have actually done so much, but there could be that treasure, wealth, or price too difficult to pay in order to be perfect. When faced with such difficulty, we need to ask the Lord for the grace that makes the difficult and impossible easy and possible. May nothing hinder us from paying the price of eternity through Christ our Lord Amen.*
