Hair changes can feel more emotional than people realize.
Hair is tied to so many things.
Identity.
Confidence.
Age.
Health.
Self-expression.
The way we recognize ourselves in the mirror.
So when something changes — more shedding, less density, a shift in texture, or a scalp concern that will not settle — it can feel like a much bigger deal than people expect.
And sometimes the hardest part is feeling like you are being “dramatic” for caring.
You are not.
We believe hair and scalp concerns deserve to be taken seriously without being sensationalized.
That means listening.
Looking at what has changed.
Helping you understand what is visible.
And giving you a clearer idea of what may be worth doing next.
Sometimes the answer is reassuring.
Sometimes it is a change in routine.
Sometimes it is something we monitor.
Sometimes it deserves further investigation.
But you are allowed to care about your hair.
That matters too.
A treatment plan should be a roadmap, not a contract with your future scalp.
We love a good plan.
But scalp and hair care are not always perfectly linear.
Something that made complete sense at the beginning of your journey may need to change as your scalp responds, your symptoms improve, your shedding pattern shifts, or your life changes.
Sometimes treatment frequency needs to increase.
Sometimes it needs to decrease.
Sometimes a home-care change ends up doing more than expected.
Sometimes a product that worked well initially stops being the best fit.
And sometimes your schedule, budget, or priorities change — which matters too.
At Capital, we do not believe a treatment plan should continue unchanged simply because that is what we wrote down months ago.
Follow-up appointments give us a chance to look at what is actually happening and ask:
Is this still working?
Does this still make sense?
Do we need to adjust anything?
More treatment is not automatically better treatment.
A good plan should be structured enough to give direction and flexible enough to respond to you.

A Brief Pause at Capital
Capital Head Spa & Hair will be taking a brief pause from September 24–29.
During this time, our team will be away from the spa, but we will continue to monitor voicemails and emails periodically. Please allow for slightly longer response times, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Online booking will remain available 24/7 .
We’ll return to our regular hours on Wednesday, September 30, refreshed and ready to welcome you back.
Thank you for your continued support and for being part of the Capital community. We look forward to seeing you soon
Have you ever hit a certain time of year and suddenly thought, Why is there SO much hair coming out right now?
You’re not imagining it.
Seasonal changes can influence the hair-growth cycle, and for some people that means noticing an increase in shedding during certain times of year.
The tricky part is that shedding is one of those things that can look dramatic even when it’s still within a normal pattern, which is why looking at the bigger picture matters.
In Part 1 of our Seasonal Shedding series, Carmen explains what shedding season actually is and why you may notice more hair fall at different points throughout the year.
Next week, we’re getting into the question most people really want answered:
When is seasonal shedding normal, and when is it something worth investigating?
Follow along for Part 2, and if your shedding has changed significantly or you’re not sure what you’re seeing, our consultations are designed to help us look at the full picture.
If you notice more shedding, you do not need to overhaul your entire routine tonight.
That urge is very real.
You notice more hair in the shower, get worried, and suddenly you are researching shampoos, supplements, serums, scalp oils, treatments, and every possible explanation at once.
But when multiple things change at the same time, it becomes much harder to understand what is actually helping.
A better first step is often observation.
Ask yourself:
Is this truly different from my normal?
How long has it been happening?
Has my wash frequency changed?
Am I seeing any new scalp symptoms?
Have there been changes in stress, health, medication, hormones, or nutrition that may be relevant?
Then keep the parts of your routine that are working as consistent as possible while you gather more information.
That does not mean ignoring a significant or persistent change.
It means giving yourself enough context to make a thoughtful decision instead of reacting from fear.
Sometimes the right next step is a product adjustment.
Sometimes it is a consultation.
Sometimes it is simply watching the pattern for a little longer.
The goal is not to do more.
It is to understand more.
“I think I need a scalp consultation… but what actually happens during one?”
Fair question.
Especially if you have never had one before.
A scalp consultation at Capital is not an appointment where you sit down, get told everything that is wrong, and leave with a giant treatment package.
The first part is conversation.
What have you noticed?
When did it start?
Has anything changed?
What products are you using?
What does your routine look like?
Are there relevant changes in your health, medication, stress, or lifestyle that may help provide context?
From there, Carmen may use magnified scalp analysis to take a closer look at what is visible on the scalp.
Then we put those pieces together.
We explain what we can see, answer your questions, discuss what may be worth addressing, and talk through possible next steps.
Sometimes that means home care.
Sometimes it means treatment.
Sometimes it means watching something over time.
And sometimes it means bringing another healthcare provider into the conversation.
A consultation is information first.
You should leave with a better understanding of what you are experiencing — not simply a list of things to buy.

A little birthday-week love from Capital 🎉
September happens to be a special month around here because both Carmen and Jasmine are celebrating another trip around the sun.
And while most of what you see from us is scalp education, Head Spa, hair, treatments, and whatever we happen to be working on behind the scenes that week, Capital is ultimately a very small business run by real people.
People who care a lot about what happens inside these walls.
People who celebrate when a guest finally feels heard.
People who get way too excited about new equipment, products, colour formulas, scalp images, and tiny improvements nobody else would notice.
And people who are incredibly grateful every time someone chooses to book with us, recommends Capital to a friend, writes a review, shares one of our posts, or simply follows along.
Supporting a small local business really does support the humans behind it.
So this week, we’re taking a little moment to celebrate those humans too. 🥂
Thank you for being part of Capital with us.
Progress is much easier to understand when we have something meaningful to compare it to.
It is surprisingly difficult to remember exactly what your scalp or hair looked like three months ago.
We tend to remember how worried we felt.
We remember whether we thought something looked “better” or “worse.”
But memory is not a particularly reliable measuring tool.
That is one reason repeat scalp assessments and photographs can be so helpful.
A single image gives us a snapshot.
A series of images gives us context.
We can look back and ask:
Has visible redness changed?
Is buildup improving?
Do density patterns look different?
Is the area we were watching relatively stable?
Does what we can see line up with what the guest has been experiencing?
Not every change is dramatic, and progress is not always perfectly linear.
Having something tangible to compare against lets us make decisions based on more than memory alone.
The goal is not to obsess over tiny differences.
It is to have better information when deciding what makes sense next.
The best routine is the one you can actually maintain.
When something changes with your scalp, it is incredibly tempting to throw everything at it.
New shampoo.
New serum.
New oil.
New scrub.
A “miracle” treatment someone recommended online.
And suddenly you have changed six things at once and have absolutely no idea which one helped — or which one made things worse.
More is not always better.
A good scalp-care routine should be appropriate for what your scalp needs, but it also needs to fit into your actual life.
For one person, that might be a more structured routine.
For someone else, success might simply mean cleansing consistently with the right product and actually drying their scalp afterward.
There is no prize for having the most complicated shelf.
Consistency gives us something incredibly valuable too: a baseline.
When you are doing the same appropriate things regularly, it becomes much easier to notice what changes and assess whether an adjustment is actually helping.
We would rather help you build a smaller routine you can still follow three months from now than an impressive one you abandon next week.
