brows? loved.
lip color? approved.
me? trying not to do a little happy dance šŸ˜‚šŸ¤

i asked one question and got the sweetest review of both services.

ā€œi love my brows.ā€
ā€œthe lip color is great.ā€

but hearing that her first lip color experience was a good one? that made me smile even more. 🄹

because the experience matters, too. answering questions, listening to what she wants, and helping her feel comfortable throughout the appointment.

she came in feeling apprehensive.

she left saying her brows took 10 years off her look šŸ˜‚šŸ¤

and honestly, hearing her say she felt comfortable as soon as she walked in means just as much to me as hearing ā€œi absolutely love them.ā€

because getting your brows done can feel like a BIG decision. it’s your face! you’re allowed to ask questions, take your time and want to feel good about the person doing them.

then comes that moment when you look in the mirror and realize… wait. i love these. 🄹

her words at the end of this video made my day. and yes, her experience with discomfort was her own—everyone’s experience can be different.

one brow was shorter. the other one liked to jump into the conversation. šŸ˜‚

her words, not mine!! she said whenever she talked, one eyebrow would go up on its own, and honestly… eyebrows do have personalities sometimes 😭

then she decided, ā€œyou know what? i’m gonna get my eyebrows done.ā€

and the way she ends this video with ā€œi feel fantasticā€ šŸ„¹šŸ¤

that’s why i love hearing clients tell their own stories. i can show you a brow photo, but hearing how she feels about them says so much more.

I thought becoming a PMU artist was about learning to create beautiful brows.
Turns out… That was only part of it. šŸ¤

Here are 10 lessons that changed how I approached my career:
✨ 1. Progress over perfection. I started looking at what improved—not just what wasn’t perfect yet.
✨ 2. Practice builds confidence. Waiting to feel naturally talented wasn’t going to improve my hand control.
✨ 3. Support matters. Mentorship gave me feedback I couldn’t get by guessing alone.
✨ 4. Healed results tell the bigger story. A fresh photo doesn’t show how the color and technique will settle.
✨ 5. Comparison needs context. Someone else’s polished work may have years of practice behind it.
✨ 6. Client experience is part of the service. Listening, explaining, and helping clients feel comfortable matter too.
✨ 7. Mistakes need reflection—not shame. Understand what happened, get guidance, and adjust your approach.
✨ 8. Education comes before expensive equipment. A premium machine can’t replace understanding how to use it.
✨ 9. Quality builds value. I stopped making price the only reason someone should choose me.
✨ 10. It’s more than brows. Helping someone feel more confident gives the work meaning.

You don’t need to be perfect before you start learning. But you do need to keep learning with intention.
Build your foundation. Ask for feedback. Review your results. Give yourself room to grow.

You got the certificate… So why don’t you feel ready? šŸ‘€
Because finishing a course and feeling confident are two different things.
Here are 10 truths I want every new PMU artist to hear:

1ļøāƒ£ Your first practice brows probably won’t be perfect. Neither were mine. You’re learning—not auditioning for perfection.
2ļøāƒ£ Another course won’t magically improve your work. Training can help, but you still need to apply it and get feedback.
3ļøāƒ£ Struggling doesn’t automatically mean you’re ā€œbadā€ at PMU. You may be expecting experienced results from beginner skills.
4ļøāƒ£ Confidence doesn’t arrive with your certificate. It grows through intentional practice, correction, and experience.
5ļøāƒ£ Your Day 1 isn’t someone else’s Year 10. Their beautiful results don’t show every practice session behind them.
6ļøāƒ£ Being the cheapest isn’t the goal. Consistent work, clear communication, and thoughtful client care matter.
7ļøāƒ£ Feedback isn’t failure. Identifying a mistake gives you something specific to improve.
8ļøāƒ£ A certificate marks training—not the end of learning. Your technique, professionalism, and reputation help build your career.
9ļøāƒ£ Progress matters more than perfect practice sheets. Look for what improved and what still needs attention.
šŸ”Ÿ A beauty career isn’t built in one weekend. Keep learning, practicing, and refining your work.

After 15+ years in beauty, here’s what I want you to understand: You don’t need to be great before you start learning.
But persistence alone isn’t enough. You need the right foundations, honest feedback, and the judgment to know when you’re ready for client work.
Don’t rush to look experienced. Give yourself time to become skilled.

You practiced for hours… But did you improve—or repeat the same mistake? 🫣
That’s the frustrating part of learning PMU. You can put in the effort and still feel stuck when you don’t know what needs correction.

Here are 5 things I would NEVER recommend to someone starting PMU:
āŒ Practicing without theory. Learn why you’re choosing a technique, pigment, or needle—not just how to use it.
āŒ Skipping the fundamentals. Skin knowledge, mapping, hand control, and sanitation deserve your attention before advanced techniques.
āŒ Copying every artist online. A video shows what they did. It doesn’t always explain their client’s skin or the reasoning behind their decisions.
āŒ Practicing without feedback. Repetition can reinforce a mistake when nobody helps you identify it.
āŒ Expecting confidence after one course. Training is a starting point. Confidence develops as you practice, receive correction, and assess healed results.

If we haven’t met yet, hiiii šŸ¤ I’m Sophie—a mechanical engineering technologist, beauty artist, salon owner, and now I teach PMU.

Before you blame your talent, ask yourself: ā€œDo I understand what I’m doing? Do I know what to improve?ā€
You may be missing a foundation that should have been taught from the beginning.
Practice with a purpose. Get feedback. Make the correction. Then repeat.

Sometimes the problem isn’t your talent. It’s the little things you barely notice. šŸ’…āœØ
You’re focused on getting the technique right—but what’s happening around that technique matters too.

Here are 5 things that quietly affect your results as a beauty artist:
šŸ’” 1. Your lighting. Shadows and poor visibility can make it harder to assess symmetry, color, and the details of your work.
šŸŖ‘ 2. Your posture. Your chair height, client position, and hand support can affect how comfortably and steadily you work.
🧼 3. Your preparation. An organized setup and proper service prep help you give each step the attention it needs.
šŸ’¬ 4. Your consultation. Understand your client’s starting point, previous treatments, routine, and expectations before choosing your approach.
šŸ” 5. Your follow-up. A beautiful fresh photo isn’t the whole result. How the work heals or wears gives you valuable feedback.

If we haven’t met yet, hiiii šŸ¤ I’m Sophie—a mechanical engineering technologist, beauty artist, salon owner, and now I teach PMU.

Before you decide you need another tool or another product, review your process.
Can you see clearly? Are you comfortable? Did you prepare properly? Do you understand your client? Are you learning from the final result?
Small details deserve attention too.

your practice brows look great… so why do your healed results feel inconsistent? šŸ‘€

this is the part nobody wants to hear: having an artistic eye is helpful, but it cannot replace understanding your technique.

i’ve seen beginners improve so much because they slowed down and learned the foundation.

and i’ve seen talented artists get frustrated because they were taught to copy a result without understanding why it worked. 😭

skin. mapping. pigment. needle choice. hand control. implantation. healing.

they’re not the ā€œboring stuff before the fun stuff.ā€ they ARE the work.

you learn → you practise → you get corrected → you review the healed result → you improve.

that’s how you build a skill you can repeat, not just one photo you got lucky with šŸ˜‚

to the beginner who thinks, ā€œmaybe i’m just not gifted enoughā€¦ā€

come here for a second šŸ¤

you do not need to wake up one morning with perfect hand control and an eye for every brow shape. i promise that is not how this works šŸ˜‚

you learn how to assess skin. you practice mapping. you understand pigment and needles. you work on your pressure and implantation. then you look at the healed result and learn from it.

and sometimes you draw the same brow about 47 times before you finally see what needs to change. ask me how i know 😭

if we haven’t met yet, hiiii šŸ¤ i’m Sophie—a certified mechanical engineering technologist, beauty artist and salon owner who somehow ended up teaching PMU.

after 15+ years in beauty, i still believe this: confidence comes from understanding why you’re doing something, practicing it, and getting feedback along the way.

learn → practice → get corrected → improve → repeat.

that’s a skill you can build. one step at a time.

being good at winged liner does NOT mean you’re ready to tattoo eyeliner. šŸ‘€

i love a sharp wing as much as anyone. but drawing eyeliner with makeup and performing eyeliner PMU are two very different skills šŸ˜‚

you have to assess the eye area, plan a design that suits the client, understand where you can safely work, and control your machine with care.

then there’s pigment, needle choice, implantation, healing… and the tiny detail of keeping your hands steady while your client is blinking šŸ˜…

if we haven’t met yet, hiiii šŸ¤ i’m Sophie—a certified mechanical engineering technologist, beauty artist and salon owner who somehow ended up teaching PMU.

after 15+ years in beauty, i’ve learned that a beautiful fresh photo tells only part of the story. what matters is knowing why you chose your approach and learning from how the work heals.

learn → practice → get corrected → improve → repeat.

please don’t rush into eyeliner PMU because the finished reel makes it look quick. there’s a lot of training behind those few seconds.
