October?!

I’m going to need everyone to explain how that happened because I was very clearly still enjoying summer.

I am not ready for cold weather, dark evenings or anyone trying to hand me a pumpkin.

Lili’s is closed today, but downtown Napanee definitely is not.

Guitars n’ Cars is taking over downtown from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the street will be full of cars, music, food, families and lots to see.

So while you won’t be able to pop into the studio today, you can absolutely still come downtown and enjoy everything happening around us.

Ever use the exact same skincare product you always use… and suddenly one day you can feel it?

I have a client who notices this with the same product at certain points in her cycle.

Nothing changed in the bottle. Her skin changed.

Hormonal shifts throughout the menstrual cycle can affect things like oil production, hydration and how sensitive or reactive your skin feels. So a product that normally feels like absolutely nothing may tingle or feel more noticeable at another point in the month.

That doesn’t automatically mean the product has suddenly gone bad or that you need to throw out your whole routine.

Pay attention to your skin.

And if something that normally feels fine suddenly stings significantly, tell me. There’s a difference between your skin having a more sensitive day and your skin telling us something isn’t right.

Your skin isn’t exactly the same every day, and your skincare doesn’t always feel exactly the same either.

The little “6M,” “12M,” or “24M” tells you how long the product is intended to be used after opening.

So if you have a serum in the bathroom that you vaguely remember buying during lockdown...

Skincare does not last forever, and neither do active ingredients.

Yes. Come as you are.

You do not need to go home after work, wash your face, and then come back for your facial.

Properly cleansing your skin is part of what I do.

I would much rather you arrive with makeup on than spend the whole drive here worrying that you were supposed to show up with a perfectly clean face.

Sometimes the easiest treatment is the one where you lie down and do absolutely nothing.

How much skincare product are you actually supposed to use?

We tend to assume more product = better results, but that’s not usually how skincare works. Using extra serum, moisturizer or eye cream doesn’t make it work faster. Mostly, it just means you’ll go through the bottle faster.

I love this visual guide because it gives you an easy way to picture the amount you actually need.

Two nerds of serum? One candy corn of eye cream? A Snickers Mini of cleanser? 😂

Obviously these are rough comparisons, not measuring spoons, but the point is good: you probably need less product than you think.
