​Natural botanical pigments—like the rich anthocyanins in this glycerite—are nature’s own built-in pH indicators. They physically shape-shift at a molecular level depending on how acidic or alkaline their environment is!

​Here is the step-by-step breakdown of that color shift:

❤️​Dark red start: In its natural state, the glycerite sits at a lower, acidic pH where the pigment molecules stay tightly protonated, reflecting deep crimson light.

💜​The purple shift: Blending it into a surfactant solution bumps up the pH, making the environment more alkaline. The pigment molecules lose hydrogen ions, altering how they absorb light and turning the blend a dramatic moody purple.
