Choosing your permanent makeup pigment is about so much more than grabbing a colour that looks close. Skin tone, undertone, natural hair colour, the area we’re working on, the depth of colour you want and... most importantly... how that pigment is expected to HEAL in your skin all matter.

Here’s something you may not realize. The colour you see in the bottle or even immediately after your appointment is not necessarily the colour you’ll ultimately be wearing. Fresh PMU typically appears stronger and darker before softening as the skin heals. Your skin itself also acts like a filter over the implanted pigment, which is why undertone can influence whether a colour heals warmer, cooler, or more neutral.

🎨 And sometimes your perfect colour doesn’t even exist in one bottle.

An experienced artist can custom mix pigments, adjusting the warmth, coolness, depth or intensity to create a shade specifically for YOU. Colour theory plays a huge role here.

Combo Brows are one of my favourite options because they give you a little bit of everything. We combine fine, natural-looking hair strokes with soft shading to create brows that have both dimension AND definition.

They can be a great choice if you:

✨ Have sparse or uneven areas that need a little extra fullness
✨ Love the look of hair strokes but want more definition than Nano Brows alone
✨ Normally fill in parts of your brows with makeup
✨ Want a more polished, defined result without your brows looking overly heavy
✨ Want to add shape and structure while still keeping some of that natural, hair-like detail

😂 Nice try with the disguise... but I KNOW those brows.

I get it. You loved how dark and defined your brows looked when they were freshly done, and as they soften over time, you may find yourself wanting that darker look back.

🤔 But wanting them darker doesn’t necessarily mean your skin is ready for a refresh.

Immediately after your appointment, your brows are intentionally darker because we know two things will happen: the pigment will settle as they heal AND gradually fade over time.

✨ Permanent makeup is designed to make your life easier, but for some people, low maintenance doesn’t mean no maintenance.

If you prefer a darker brow, there may be a period where you’ll need to lightly shade them in yourself while you wait for your permanent makeup to fade enough for more pigment.

And that part is IMPORTANT. 👇

I generally need to see around 50% fading before refreshing your brows. If there isn’t enough fading, there simply isn’t enough room in the skin to safely add more pigment.

Adding pigment too soon can eventually leave you with oversaturated, solid-looking brows... AKA the dreaded Sharpie brow. 😬 And we definitely don’t want that!

So rather than deciding it’s time based on how many months or years it’s been, let your brows tell us when they’re ready.

✨One tip when researching artists is to make sure you also look at healed results, not just fresh work. Healed results are one of the best indicators of how your permanent makeup will look long-term.
