One thing I’ve learned from business, being a creative, and generally refusing to make myself smaller: not everyone is going to understand the vision while you’re creating it.

Good.

Your ideas do not need to be palatable to everyone. Your confidence does not need to be toned down to make somebody else comfortable. And your ambition certainly does not require a permission slip.

I’d much rather walk into a room as my full, slightly eccentric, wildly creative self than spend my life becoming easier for other people to digest.

It’s No Makeup Monday! 🖤

I’m going bare-faced today and, in a shocking turn of events, no wig either. I’ve decided to wear this beautiful head wrap instead.
The skin isn’t looking too bad for an almost 27-year-old. I’m a lover of birds, but crow’s feet are simply not for me. I’m sure I’ll get progressively oilier throughout the day and look like a human fly trap by supper, but still, we serve.

This is your reminder that not everything you see online is absolutely perfect. I’ve got redness, milia, texture and pimples too. Look at the razor bumps on my chest, for example. It’s skin. It does skin things. This is my face, and I’m perfectly fine with that.

DEEP IN THE CREATIVE CHAOS. 🖤

This period is for creation.

I’m working on company merch, thinking about what’s next, and figuring out how I take what I’ve built beyond makeup and branding. I need to pour all of this creative energy into my passion, dedicate myself and my time to my rainbow community, and strategize the next evolution.

I’m into darker aesthetics lately. Leather. Fishnets. Smoky eyeshadow. Heavy metal. A little more grit and a lot less giving a f**k.

I caught myself in the mirror at the mall tonight and a different, more empowered reflection stared back at me.

Maybe I’m the most me when I’m fractured.

Is strutting around the mall listening to Slipknot in my earbuds a waste of time? Absolutely not. That’s where my creative ideas come from. Somewhere above, somewhere within, somewhere between the food court and Sephora.

Anyway. The doll is creating. The plot is thickening. 🖤

A Shadow in the Night 🖤

The evening settles violet on the street,
While August leaves exhale beneath my feet.
The dew hangs heavy, dusky, damp, and sweet,
And faint to***co drifts across the heat.

In tailored grey I wander through the night,
Leather cap, twelve rings that catch the light.
My painted eyes are smoky, sharp, and bright,
While heavy metal makes the world right.

For miles I walk beneath the buzzing signs,
Past headlights, strangers, patios, and pines.
The city moves in strange, electric lines,
Somewhere in the noise, my mind unwinds.

For when it's quiet, chaos fills my head,
A thousand little futures spin instead.
But give me crowds and music nearly red,
And suddenly I hear myself instead.

At nearly twenty-seven, here I stand,
Still building something no one ever planned.
I've broken glass and held it in my hand,
Then made a brighter mosaic where I am.

I've shed old skins and painted newer faces,
Loved deeply, wandered stranger places.
Each year has left its fingerprints and traces,
More colour filling all the fractured spaces.

Perhaps I've chased tomorrow far too fast,
Demanding answers from a stubborn past.
As though sheer will could make the future last,
Or fabulous trousers summon it at last.

I speak of magnetism, strange but true,
That what we radiate comes searching too.
Perhaps what's meant for me already knew
The way to find me long before I do.

So I won't beg the stars to show their hand,
I'll let the evening take me where it can.
With perfume, leather, silver, smoke, and sound,
I'll trust what's mine will find me walking 'round.

The world looks better fractured into light,
A kaleidoscope of colour in the night.
Still strange, still unfinished, still burning bright,

I walk toward what's next, a shadow in the night. 🖤
