BALY Therapeutic Massage

It's Eye Health Week.

One of the key signs and symptoms of vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (vEDS) is carotid-cavernous sinus fistula formation without trauma.

A carotid-cavernous fistula (CCF) is an abnormal connection between blood vessels in the head, specifically the carotid arteries in the neck and the cavernous sinus behind the eye. When a CCF forms, blood from the carotid artery can enter the cavernous sinus and cause the eye to bulge.

vEDS may cause a spontaneous CCF with no obvious trauma or cause.

A carotid-cavernous fistula is a medical emergency. Rapid medical treatment is required to preserve vision.

This October, vEDS Action Month will bring our global community together to raise awareness of vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (vEDS), share knowledge, and drive action towards earlier diagnosis and better care.

We want people living with vEDS and their families to help shape the conversation.

What do you wish healthcare professionals better understood about vEDS?

What would improve your care?

What needs to change, and what gives you hope for the future?

Throughout October, we want to share your stories, experiences, and priorities, and highlight what matters most to the vEDS community.

If you would like to share your experience and help inform vEDS Action Month, we would love to hear from you. Please send us a DM to talk further.
