Foothills Equine & Canine Massage Therapy

We spend so much time focusing on training, conditioning, and performance that it’s easy to overlook how important recovery is. Just like us, horses need time and support for their bodies to recover after the work they do. Training creates the challenge, but recovery is where the body adapts. Giving your horse the opportunity to recover properly can make a difference in how they feel, move, and perform. Every horse deserves a recovery plan, not just a training plan. #equinemassagetherapy #equinerecovery #foothillsalberta #equinecalgary #equinerehab

🌟MUSCLE OF THE MONTH🌟 This muscle runs from the chest up to the jaw and base of the skull and is one I feel come up frequently in sessions. The sternocephalicus plays an important role in lowering the head, bending the neck, and supporting front-end stability. When it’s functioning well, the neck can move more freely and the horse is better able to soften through the poll and along the topline. When this muscle is tight or overactive, horses may feel braced through the neck, resistant to bending, or inconsistent in the contact. Signs such as head tossing, stiffness, or difficulty relaxing are often associated with tension here. Addressing the sternocephalicus can make a noticeable difference in a horse’s comfort and ease of movement, especially when it’s included as part of a thoughtful, full-body approach rather than treated in isolation. Neck tension is common — but it’s rarely random. #muscleofthemonth #equineanatomy #equinemassagetherapist #calgaryequine

Chronic Suspensory Branch Support

KT taping the fetlock can be a helpful supportive tool for horses managing an old suspensory branch injury. When applied correctly, it may provide proprioceptive feedback and gentle support during ongoing maintenance or controlled work.
