Drop The Spoon
Drop The Spoon Official Facebook Why Drop the Spoon ? He would then put one end of a spoon on the edge of the glass and hold the other end between his fingers.
Drop The Spoon is a new collective (2015) of premier visual and conceptual artists that have contributed to a variety of international renowned shows and theatrical productions over the past 15 years. This creative collective was initiated by Patrick Neys, Jean-Luc Gason and Dirk Decloedt the three of them educated and inspired by the work and artistry of Franco Dragone, visionary director who’s influence has transformed live entertainment for the last 30 years. With the combined talent and expertise of our collaborative team, we guarantee a unique approach for every project that we develop covering conceptual design, video design, video editing, software expertise, technical production and award winning directing. In the beginning of the 20th century artists and writers consciously attempted to use the experience of dreaming as a source of inspiration for their work.
“For instance, surrealist Salvador Dali would lie down and place a glass on the floor. As he drifted into the first stage of sleep, Dali’s fingers would naturally relax and release the spoon. The sound of the spoon crashing into the glass would then wake him up, and Dali would sketch the odd images that were drifting through his mind.”
From Night School, The Life-Changing Science of Sleep – Richard Wiseman
With Drop The Spoon we aim to explore this boundary between sleeping and waking, a boundary which touches on the indefinite and the infinite, the surreal and the mysterious, the abstract and the methaphoric. With the silent use of imagery we portray beauty, meaning and inspiration opening doors to other worlds, dimensions and comprehension.

Something is taking shape behind the scenes. 🎬
A look back at a day in the studio, combining filming, actor direction and the creation of new content.
A few glimpses behind the scenes before we reveal more…
When video becomes part of the performance.
ECLIPSE is an immersive, multi-technological show at Futuroscope, a park that has been exploring innovative visual technologies and experiences for decades.
Creating video content for a technological show like this meant making it interact with every element of the performance: robotics, drones, lighting, lasers, sound, kinetic elements and a human performer.
Every element had to communicate, react and work together to create one coherent experience.
We also animated the LEDs on the robot, bringing it to life and giving it expressions, a complex process that required both technical precision and creativity.
To make this possible, it was essential to work directly inside the theatre and develop an agile and responsive workflow, allowing us to experiment, adjust and adapt alongside all the different departments involved.
In a show where technology defines a very precise framework, the challenge was to find the space to express our creativity and create emotion.
A big thank you to Futuroscope, Cirque Éloize and Vendôme Robotics.

Some projects change everything.
In 2003, Céline Dion and Franco Dragone were among the first to truly believe in the potential of visual scenography and to give it a central role in a show of this scale.
With A New Day, that vision reached an unprecedented dimension.
At the time, Drop The Spoon did not exist yet. We were invited to join this pioneering adventure and, on site, began exploring and developing a new approach to visual scenography.
We created visual content conceived as an integral part of the stage, displayed on what was then the world’s largest indoor LED screen, 33 metres wide and 10 metres high.
More than a backdrop, imagery became an essential part of the show, blending digital environments with live performance.
For us, A New Day was a turning point. Until then, we had imagined our path leading towards cinematic imagery. This project opened the door to live entertainment.
That cinematic influence has never left us. It remains part of the way we approach imagery, storytelling and emotion in our work today.
A New Day sparked a shared passion for live entertainment and video, and opened the door to a whole new field of creative possibilities.
That was the spark. The beginning of a story that would later become Drop The Spoon.

We visually turn stories into poetry. ✨
At Drop The Spoon, storytelling is at the heart of everything we create.
Video, sound, music, lighting, special effects or technology are never the final goal. They are tools, carefully brought together to serve the story, the stage and the emotion.
Because great visual content shouldn't overpower a performance. It should listen to it, become part of it and help the story resonate.
Technology serves the story. Never the other way around.

Another spoon, another immersive journey. 🥄
What could be more natural than dropping a spoon into a restaurant?
For the second time, we had the pleasure of collaborating with Sunrise Studios, through Chris Moylan, on the FUGU Singapore Experience - Tim Raue, an immersive restaurant aboard the new Mein Schiff Flow from Tui Cruises.
Our team together with TUIC Entertainment, created three immersive visual experiences, each transporting guests into a different world:
- A vibrant cityscape
- A colourful Bollywood-inspired universe
- A visual tribute to the Merlion, Singapore's iconic half-lion, half-mermaid statue.
Three unique environments. One unforgettable dining experience.

Happy Belgian National Day ! 🇧🇪
Today, we're proud to celebrate our Belgian roots and the craftsmanship that has accompanied us on every project, wherever our work takes us.
Wherever our projects take us around the world, one thing always stays the same…
People often simply refer to us as "the Belgians" before "the video team".
In China, on the Zhuhai show, our team was called 比利时人 (Bi Li Shi Ren), which means the Belgians. During the Britney Spears – Circus tour, the crew nicknamed us "the Crazy Belgians."
These nicknames always make us smile. More importantly, they remind us how proud we are to represent the Belgian touch on stages, at events, and through immersive experiences all around the world.
Happy Belgian National Day! 🇧🇪✨
