We’re getting closer to opening the ingredient cabinet. 👀

But before we start showing you what made it onto the Blend Bar table, there is one rule behind every choice:

It needs a job.

Not:

“Everybody is talking about this ingredient.”

Not:

“This is good for Hair Type X.”

And definitely not:

“TikTok said so.” 😂

What are we trying to support?

What can this ingredient contribute to the formulation?

Does it even need to be there?

Those are the questions behind the ingredient selection for the Belgium Edition.

Soon we’ll start showing you the answers.

Sometimes building something better means adding.

Sometimes it means deleting.

While building the Hair Need Journey, we removed a question about how someone’s hair felt after using conditioner.

Why?

Because the answer could tell us something about the conditioner they happened to use, rather than clearly telling us something about the hair itself.

Small question.

Big distinction.

And exactly the kind of distinction we want to keep questioning while building The Blend Bar.

Not:

“Can we ask this?”

But:

“What does the answer actually tell us?”

Moving away from Hair Type created another question for The Blend Bar:

What replaces it?

The answer isn’t another permanent category.

Hair Need is not meant to become a new box that tells someone “what their hair is.”

It brings our attention back to what the individual hair is showing us now.

That distinction is shaping the Hair Need Journey we’re building before the physical formulation experience.

Because before we decide what goes into the bowl, we need a reason for the choice.

Can I test something with you?

When you hear the words “hair assessment”, what do you imagine is going to happen?

I’m asking because I’ve realised I don’t particularly like the idea of someone answering questions and then simply being told:

“Here is what your hair needs.”

I want the person doing it to learn something during the process too.

That has changed quite a lot about what we’re building for The Blend Bar.

So I’m curious about the words themselves.

Does Hair Need Journey feel different to you from Hair Assessment?

And if yes, why?

20/09/2026

I deleted a question from something I’m building this week.

Not because it was a bad question.

Actually, it sounded perfectly sensible.

The question asked about how someone’s hair feels after using conditioner.

Then I realised I had a problem.

If you tell me your hair feels wonderfully soft after conditioning, am I learning about your hair?

Or am I learning that you happen to be using a conditioner that works beautifully for you?

Maybe both.

And suddenly my “simple” question wasn’t so simple anymore. 😂

So out it went.

This is what building The Blend Bar has looked like behind the scenes lately.

Ask a question.

Question the question.

Then occasionally delete the question. 😂

But I would rather do that now than build an experience around assumptions.

I’m building something for The Blend Bar at the moment and I’d actually like your help.

Forget ingredients for a minute.

Forget products.

If someone gave you the opportunity to understand one thing about your own hair better, what would you ask?

It could be something you’ve wondered about for years.

Something your hair does that makes absolutely no sense to you.

Something you’ve been told about your hair but have never really understood.

Anything.

I’m asking because what started as an “assessment” for The Blend Bar is becoming much more of a journey, and I don’t want to build that journey only from my side of the table.

So…

What do you wish you understood about your own hair?

17/09/2026

I want to test a question with you.

Suppose I ask:

“How does your hair feel after you use conditioner?”

And you answer: “Very soft.”

What have I actually learned?

A. Something about your hair
B. Something about your conditioner
C. Both
D. Not enough information yet

We had a version of this question while building The Blend Bar Hair Need Journey.

And we removed it.

Because the more we looked at it, the more we realised the answer could be influenced heavily by the product someone happened to use.

That doesn’t make the experience useless. It simply means we have to be careful about what conclusion we draw from it.

This is something I want people to learn at The Blend Bar too.

Observing your hair is not just noticing what happened.

It is learning to ask why it may have happened before jumping to a conclusion.

So I am curious what you would choose: A, B, C or D?

And more importantly, why?

16/09/2026

What if you understood what your hair needed before choosing what goes on it?

I have been working on something new.

And I think it is finally time to start talking about it.

For years, I have watched the same thing happen when it comes to hair maintenance.

We buy something because the label says moisturising, strengthening, repairing or hydrating.

We try a product because someone with beautiful hair swears by it.

We hear that a certain ingredient is “good for hair”, so we start looking for products that contain it.

And when our hair does not respond the way we expected, we often move on to the next recommendation.

But there is a question missing from that process.

What does YOUR hair actually need?

Not what someone with hair that looks like yours uses.

Not what is trending.

Not what the front of the bottle promises.

Your hair.

That question is at the heart of something new I am creating through The Natural Hair Therapist Academy.

It is called The Blend Bar.

At The Blend Bar, you will create your own conditioner.

But we are not going to start with the ingredients.

We start with your hair.

What is it showing you?

Is it dry?

Is it breaking?

Does it tangle easily?

Is there something else going on that we should pay attention to?

And sometimes the answer may even be that your hair does not need us to “fix” very much at all.

Only after we have started understanding the hair do we move towards the formulation.

Because I do not want you choosing an ingredient simply because you have heard that it is good for hair.

I want you to understand the job you are asking that ingredient to do.

That is the difference I want to create with The Blend Bar.

You will formulate.

You will learn.

You will leave with your own conditioner.

But more importantly, I want you to leave knowing a little more about your own hair than you did when you walked in.

We are still building the experience.

Actually, today we stopped in the middle of building it because one of the questions we had created did not sit right with me.

And that one question sent us back into a much bigger discussion about what it actually means to determine what hair needs.

I will tell you about that next.

For now, I want to start where we started.

If I asked you right now, “What does your hair need?”, what would your first answer be?

Don’t research it.

Just tell me what you think your hair is telling you.

I am genuinely curious.

The Blend Bar is coming. And I am going to take you along while we build it
