One of the things I love about my treatment room's location is having the Wanneroo showgrounds just across the road π
It means that there's an opportunity to enjoy some of the nature and possibly a walk before or after your treatment.
Sometimes it's nice to take a few extra minutes for yourself, get some fresh air and enjoy a bit of movement around your massage π

This past year has given me the opportunity to look after myself more, and in turn, that's allowed me to better look after the people who come through my door.
I've loved being able to support people through their own journeys and seeing them discover the benefits of massage, while also finding ways to look after themselves in between appointments.
Whether that's through exercises at home, movement, rest, or other forms of self-care, it's been so rewarding to see how all of these things can work together to help people reach their goals π

Over the past year, I've had the opportunity to work with people experiencing all kinds of aches, pains, tension and discomfort.
I've worked with presentations involving:
β’ Jaw & TMJ
β’ Headaches & neck tension
β’ Shoulders & upper back
β’ Elbows, wrists & forearms
β’ Lower back
β’ Hips & glutes
β’ Knees
β’ Legs
β’ Ankles & feet
So when I say I've worked on a little bit of everythingβ¦ I really mean it! π
Every person has their own combination of symptoms, history and goals, which means every treatment is a little different.
One year in, I've genuinely worked across the whole body, and I love that no two appointments are exactly the same π

One of the biggest things I've learned in my first year of running a business is that it doesn't always look the way you expect it to.
When I first started, I had high expectations for myself. I felt like I needed to do all the things to make my business successful.
Post consistently.
Try different marketing.
Say yes to opportunities.
Keep growing.
Keep improving.
Always be doing something.
And while I've definitely learned a lot from trying different things, I've also learned that I don't have to do everything just because someone else says it's what a successful business should look like.
I think the biggest lesson has been learning to trust myself.
To figure out what feels right for me, what fits the kind of business I want to build, and what allows me to genuinely enjoy the work I'm doing.
I've learned that being true to myself matters more than trying to fit into someone else's idea of what my business should be.
I'm still learning. I'm still figuring things out. And I'm sure year two will bring plenty more lessons.
But I'm going into it with a much clearer idea of who I am, how I want to work, and the kind of experience I want to create for the people who come through my door.
And honestly, I think that's a pretty good place to be one year in π

One year π
Today marks one year since I opened the doors to Telia Mills β Remedial Massage.
There have been a lot of lessons, challenges, little wins and plenty of moments where I've had to figure things out as I went.
But most importantly, there have been the people who have trusted me with their care, returned for another appointment, recommended me to someone else, left a review, or simply supported my little business along the way.
I'm incredibly grateful that one year later, I'm still here doing something I'm genuinely proud of.
Thank you for being part of my first year.
Here's to year two πΏ

Feeling like you've got a knot of tension that just won't let go?
Cupping can be a great addition to a massage when you're feeling particularly tight or restricted.
The cups may look atrocious, though they can be a gentle way to release tension especially if you're feeling particularly tender or unable to tolerate pressure.
Sometimes a little extra help is exactly what your body needs π
Have you tried cupping before?

Sometimes progress isn't dramatic
It's not always:
βI walked out completely pain-free!β
Sometimes it's:
βI could turn my head a little further today.β
βMy shoulders didn't feel as heavy.β
βI didn't notice my headache as much this week.β
βI slept better.β
βI realised I wasn't clenching my jaw.β
Those little changes matter.
Remedial massage isn't about promising a miracle cure.
It's about working with your body, paying attention to what's changing and adjusting treatment as we go.
And honestly?
I think those small wins are some of the best parts of my job π

Have you ever had a massage and thought, "oh wow...I was holding more tension then I realised"? π
It's actually quite common for people to be surprised by how much tension they're carrying without really noticing it.
Our bodies can gradually build up tension without it necessarily affecting our day-to-day life or feeling particularly uncomfortable.
That is, until we start noticing it.
Often, the discomfort comes first, and then we start thinking about what we can do about it. π
Sometimes your body has been giving you little hints for a while, you just don't notice them until they're a little harder to ignore.

For me, looking after my body isn't just about getting a massage.
I need to keep up my strength so my body has the capacity to handle what I ask of it.
I also find that working on my mobility helps me feel looser, more comfortable and supported in my movement.
They're different things, but they work together.
And yesβ¦ do I still need a massage? Absolutely π
But I don't expect massage to do all the work.
The strength and mobility work, I do in between appointments helps me look after my body day to day, while massage gives me a helping hand when I need it.
It's all about giving your body the different things it needs to move and function well π
