Neck, shoulders, lower back. Most of us carry our stress in at least one of these. ๐
Dry needling is one of the tools we use when a muscle just won't let go with hands alone.
Quick, targeted, and most people are surprised how little they actually feel it.

Matt has officially completed his Dry Needling training and is now qualified to offer Dry Needling at Massage Land!
And guess what? I had a full Dry Needling session with Matt today! ๐
I'm usually the one torturing you guys, but today it was my turn! ๐
I'll share the video in the next few days. I'm sure some of you will enjoy watching๐
So how much pressure is actually enough?
Part 2 of the "harder isn't always better" chat.
Before you push deeper, know what's under your hands. And not just the anatomy. DOMS from yesterday's session, inflammation, an old injury, nerve involvement, or a nervous system that's just a bit sensitive today.
When you feel the tissue barrier, that's not your cue to force through it. Work with it. Watch your client too. Holding their breath? Pulling away? Tissue guarding? That's the body telling you something.
And if an area isn't responding, going harder isn't your only option. MET, PNF, myofascial release, dry needling, cuppingโฆ change the stimulus instead of fighting the tissue.
Sometimes better treatment isn't about doing more. It's about knowing when to do something different.
Therapists, what's your go-to when an area just won't let go? ๐

This is what makes all the long days and hard work worth it! โค๏ธ
Thank you so much, Cheryl, for your beautiful words and for trusting me with your care.
For me, it's never just about treating pain. It's about listening, understanding and finding the right approach for each person.
I'm also lucky to have a team who share that passion and are always learning and growing.
Messages like this mean the world to us. Thank you for reminding us why we love what we do! โค๏ธ๐
Fred & the MassageLand team
Something happened at the clinic yesterday that I keep thinking about.
A client was still in pain after almost an hour of treatment. Neck and shoulders. But when I checked her, the muscles weren't even that tight.
So instead of doing more, I just talked to her.
Turns out she'd had a really rough week and had just gone through a breakup. She started crying. I told her she was safe, gave her some water and a bit of space.
Ten minutes later, over a cup of tea, I asked how her neck was feeling.
"Honestlyโฆ it's fine now."
Sometimes we get so focused on muscles and techniques that we forget there's a whole person on the table.
And sometimes the best thing you can do isn't more treatment. It's just stopping and listening.
Therapists, have you had a moment like this?
"Harderโฆ harderโฆ harder" ๐
If you're a massage therapist, you've definitely heard this one.
But more pressure doesn't always mean a better massage. Push too hard and the body often does the opposite. The client holds their breath, the muscles tighten up, and the treatment turns into a fight.
Deep pressure isn't bad. Some people love it, and sometimes it's exactly what's needed. It just needs a reason behind it.
Part 2 coming soon: how to get better results without just pushing harder. Make sure you're following so you don't miss it.
Therapists, how do you handle the "harder please" client? ๐
One client talks the whole hour. The next barely says five words. ๐
So which one is the difficult client?
Maybe neither.
Every client who walks through your door is different. Not just their body, but their personality, how they communicate, and what they want from that hour with you.
๐คซ The one who just wants to switch off โ let them. Silence doesn't mean they're unhappy. Sometimes it's exactly what they came for.
๐ฌ The talker โ that's okay too. Talking is how they feel comfortable with you.
๐ The anxious one โ explain before you do it, check pressure, give them a bit more control.
โ ๏ธ The one in pain โ don't just work harder. Ask questions first. Sometimes the right call is not to massage that area at all.
And remember: the same client can be different from one appointment to the next.
Your technique makes you a good therapist.
Learning to read the person in front of you is what makes the whole experience different.
Therapists, which type of client do you find the hardest to read? ๐
Great hands don't always mean a full diary. ๐
I've seen it many times: the therapist with the most advanced technique in the clinic struggles with rebookings, while another therapist, still building their skills, is booked out weeks ahead.
The difference? ๐
โ
They listen
โ
They remember what matters to the client
โ
They explain what they're doing and why
โ
They adapt each session to how the client feels today
โ
They give a clear plan before the client walks out
Your client probably can't tell if your trigger point technique was textbook perfect.
But they always know if you listened. If they felt comfortable. If you actually cared.
Technique matters. Of course it does.
But trust, communication and consistency are what build a full diary.
So if your rebooking rate isn't where you want it to be, before you sign up for another course, look at the whole experience you're giving your clients. That's often where the real gap is.
This is exactly what I teach my team at Massage Land. ๐ฌ
Therapists, what's one thing you do that keeps your clients coming back? Drop it below ๐
Long weekend little treat at Massage Land โ๏ธ๐
Iโm on my own at the clinic today and tomorrow, so I thought Iโd make the weekend a little more special for everyone coming in.
Iโve got a beautiful herbal tea ready, with a blend of different ingredients, plus some Persian nougat to enjoy before or after your treatment.
And if youโre around Centrepoint, feel free to pop in and help yourself to a cup of tea and a little Persian treat, even if youโre just passing by.
My treat ๐
