“My neck and shoulders feel tight” is something we hear all the time.

The trapezius is a big muscle. It runs from the back of your head and neck, across your shoulders and down your upper back — much further than most people realise.

But feeling tight around your neck and shoulders doesn’t necessarily mean it’s all coming from the trapezius.

Where you feel it gives us a place to start. From there, we look at what else is going on around the area and what you’re noticing with movement.

Myofascial release isn’t about forcing the body to “let go.”

It’s a slower approach to soft-tissue work, using sustained pressure and responding to how the area feels and moves.

Sometimes that means staying with one area for longer. Sometimes it means working around it rather than directly on the spot that feels tight.

The goal isn’t to follow the same technique every time. It’s to adapt the treatment to what your body is showing us that day.
