Dark lip neutralisation is one of the most misunderstood cosmetic tattooing treatments, so let’s clear a few things up!
Contrary to what many people think, dark lip neutralisation isn’t about covering dark lips with a lighter colour. It’s a gradual colour correction process that uses colour theory to create a softer, more balanced lip tone over time.
Every client’s lips are completely different, which means every treatment plan is too. The pigment I choose, the number of sessions required, and the final result all depend on your natural lip tone, undertones, healing response and desired outcome.
One thing I always tell my clients is please please PLEASE trust the process!
Neutralisation isn’t a one-and-done treatment. It often takes multiple sessions, spaced 8 to 10 weeks apart, to safely achieve the best possible result.
Taking a gradual approach gives your lips time to heal properly and allows me to assess how your skin responds before moving to the next step.
If you’ve ever felt self-conscious about uneven lip pigmentation, patching or a naturally darker outline, know that it’s incredibly common and completely normal.
My goal isn’t to change your beautiful natural features. It’s to enhance what’s already there and help you feel more confident in your natural lips.
Swipe through to learn everything you need to know about dark lip neutralisation, including who it’s for, how it works, what to expect, and some of the questions I’m asked most often.

Clean lip outlines are built with control!
One of the questions I get asked is, “How do you create such clean outlines?”
It’s the small, intentional habits you repeat every single procedure.
Here’s what I focus on:
• I slow everything down. I used to work quite fast, and I found my outlines healed much lighter than expected. Now I literally repeat “slow down” in my head on repeat 🥲
• My posture comes first. Relaxed elbows, soft wrists, a relaxed grip on the machine, my body positioned close to my client, and both feet flat on the floor. It sounds simple, but you’d be surprised how much this improves your stability.
• I control my breathing to keep my movements smooth and consistent.
• I overlap each pass by around 50% for even pigment implantation.
• I stretch the skin just enough to create a flat working surface without over stretching.
• Most of my stretch comes from my thumb and index finger. My pinky helps support my working hand and adds a little extra stretch, but it isn’t doing all the work. If you rely on it too much, you’ll definitely feel it halfway through the appointment.
• I use the Mast Permanent Makeup Official Mast Pro 1RL needles, either .30 or .35 depending on the client.
• I also slow my machine down for outlining. On my Mast Permanent Makeup Official Mast P60, I outline between speed 5.5 and 6, which is lower than my shading speed and gives me more control and precision.
Clean outlines are a skill, not luck. They come from slowing down, setting yourself up properly, and repeating the same good habits over and over again.

Choosing a lip tattoo pigment isn’t as simple as picking the prettiest colour in the bottle.
One of the biggest mistakes I see is artists choosing a pigment based on how it looks in the bottle, without properly assessing the client’s lips first.
If you’re just guessing, then your healed results are unlikely to match what you expected.
The colour you see in the bottle is not necessarily the colour that will heal in the lips. Existing lip tone, undertones, melanin, previous tattooing, and the condition of the tissue all influence the final healed result.
That’s why pigment selection should always be intentional, not based on instinct or hope.
In this carousel, I’m sharing the 5 things I personally assess before choosing a pigment before every lip tattoo appointment.
The more you understand why you’re choosing a colour, the more consistent, predictable, and beautiful your healed results will become.

Getting vulnerable 🤍
For a long time, I felt like I had to have everything figured out.
That every setback meant I was on the wrong path.
That every ending meant I’d failed.
Looking back now, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Some of the experiences that once felt like they were breaking me have become the very things I’m most grateful for.
They’ve changed the way I see life, the way I run my business, the way I value relationships, and most importantly... the way I value myself.
This carousel isn’t about having all the answers.
It’s simply a reflection of what my twenties have taught me so far.
If you’re in a season where something isn’t working out, where you’re questioning yourself, or where life feels uncertain...
I hope this reminds you that not every ending is a bad one.
Sometimes it’s quietly making room for a version of your life that you couldn’t have imagined yet.
The biggest takeaway I have learnt so far is nothing happens to you - it happens FOR you ❤️🔥

My beautiful clients as Disney Princesses 👸🏽
I looked at my camera roll and realised some of my clients are giving serious Disney princess energy.
So naturally... I had to match them 😝
Tell me your thoughts! Do you agree or can you find a better match?

“Can I still get my lips tattooed if I get cold sores?”
- Absolutely!
In fact, it’s one of the most common concerns I hear from clients considering lip blush.
Having a history of cold sores doesn’t mean you’re not a candidate for lip tattooing, it simply means we take a few extra precautions and plan ahead.
With the right preparation, most clients heal beautifully and go on to achieve amazing results.
I’ve even had a cold sore outbreak during my own lip tattoo journey, and my lips still healed perfectly after my touch-up 🥰
Swipe through to learn:
✔ Why outbreaks can happen
✔ How to reduce the risk
✔ What to do if one occurs
✔ Why cold sores don’t mean lip tattooing is off the table
If you’ve been putting off lip blush because you’re prone to cold sores, send me a message. I’d be more than happy to guide you through the process and help you feel confident about your options 🤍
