🌿 Skin Conditions & Massage: When Is It Safe? 🌿

As massage therapists, we are happy to treat all different body and skin types.

Some skin conditions may be perfectly compatible with massage, while others require us to modify the treatment or avoid the affected area completely.

βœ… Massage may be suitable for:

- Dry or mildly dehydrated skin
- Stable, non-irritated eczema
- Stable psoriasis
- Fully healed scars
- Unaffected areas around a moles
- Hairy body parts

⚠️ Massage should be avoided over:

- Open wounds or broken skin
- Active infections or contagious skin conditions
- Fresh burns or sunburn
- Bleeding, crusting, or severely irritated areas
- Fresh surgical sites
- Any unexplained or rapidly changing skin lesion

πŸ’†β€β™€οΈ Your therapist’s priority should always be your safety and comfort. When in doubt, we can adapt the treatment, work around the affected area, or recommend that you seek medical advice first.

What is Myofascial Dry Needling?

Myofascial dry needling is a treatment that uses fine, sterile needles to target tight muscles and trigger points. It aims to reduce pain, ease muscle tension, and improve movementβ€”without injecting any medication.

Benefits of Dry Needling:
βœ”οΈ Relieves muscle pain and tension
βœ”οΈ Releases tight trigger points
βœ”οΈ Improves flexibility and range of motion
βœ”οΈ Reduces muscle stiffness
βœ”οΈ Supports recovery from injury and overuse
βœ”οΈ Enhances muscle function and movement

What does it feel like?
Experiences vary, but people commonly report:

β€’ A small pinprick as the needle enters the skin.
β€’ A brief ache, cramp, or twitch when a trigger point is reached.
β€’ Mild soreness afterward, similar to the feeling after a workout, lasting up to a day or two.
