You calm down…
Acknowledge the reality, it might not “be all men” BUT it is every single woman that worry for their safety, and or have been violated, coerced, abused, harassed and or impacted by a man’s behaviour.
Rather than getting defensive, rather than disregarding because it’s “not you” take a step towards having conversations with your mates, sons, nephews, uncles, cousins and brothers.
No lectures required
Just honest, integral, and accountable conversations around consent, harassment and or control.
AND acknowledge the reality that women live with day to day, either directly or indirectly, currently or have in the past.
The s**t does happen, arses cause it - no one deserves it
Being overly sensitive vs being numb and detached
Two ends of the pendulum swing
To care, to feel, to empathise, is - for me - to be real
I do care, I do feel deeply, and I can empathise to others experience
To not be “me” would be disinterested, detached, shut off - but doing so closes my heart and changes how I experience life
The mid ground is to hold both truths
I am sensitive and being that way can hurt
While, being detached may feel like the better option, because the pain of feeling won’t be as deep/ significant, it removes me from life, it changes how I experience life, it keeps me at arms length from people - the people that matter at least.
My mid ground / resting place between pendulum swings..
“I do care, it’s okay to care and feel - I can handle it”
AND
“What story am I creating/ telling myself, in this moment”
“Is this emotional reaction/ this feelings intensity belong to the hear and now, or is it compounded by something else I haven’t yet let go of/ held/ resolved within”
This is being responsible for my experience
This is choosing to respond, and expanding my capacity to respond
Feel the feels, allow the feelings to pass through me, without the added load of feelings I haven’t yet let go of
That’s the whisper
