Breaking News: Local horse discovers one weird trick to get extra scratches from the bodyworker… 😂
Honestly, I can’t decide whether Spike is smiling… laughing at me… or plotting how to get out of doing his homework.
Either way, this photo deserved to be shared!
👇 Give Spike a voice in the comments. What is he saying?

I absolutely LOVE getting photo updates of your clever ponies doing their homework! ❤️
This is the gorgeous Polly, absolutely nailing her balance pad exercises. 👏
Like many mares of a certain ahem… “vintage” who have had a few foals (don’t we all understand what age can do to the body? 😂), Polly has lost a little strength and muscle tone through her core and postural muscles over time.
Balance pads are a deceptively simple exercise, but they’re incredibly effective. Because the surface is slightly unstable, Polly has to constantly make tiny postural adjustments to stay balanced. Those subtle movements recruit the deep stabilising muscles of the trunk, shoulders and pelvis that aren’t challenged as effectively on firm ground. Over time, this can help improve:
🐴 Core stability
🐴 Proprioception (the body’s awareness of where each limb is in space)
🐴 Balance and postural control
🐴 Neuromuscular coordination
🐴 Strength and endurance of the small stabilising muscles that support movement and protect the joints.
As those muscles become stronger and more coordinated, they provide a better foundation for larger movement muscles to work efficiently, helping improve posture, stability under saddle and overall performance.
The hands-on treatments are, of course, an important part of the process. They help reduce pain, improve tissue mobility, restore normal movement and allow the body to function more comfortably. But they aren’t the whole story.
The real magic happens between appointments.
Every few minutes you spend doing the homework is another opportunity to reinforce better movement patterns and build stronger, healthier muscle. Consistent, targeted rehabilitation is what creates lasting change, and owners like Polly’s deserve so much credit for putting in that time.
I can’t wait to see the changes in Polly’s musculature and posture at her follow-up appointment. Keep up the fantastic work! 💙🐴
📸 Now it’s your turn! Drop your photos in the comments of your clever ponies doing their homework. I absolutely love seeing them, and it’s a great way for us all to celebrate the little wins and cheer each other on. Every exercise completed is another step towards a stronger, happier horse. 💪🐴
