This is a busy period at R&D Solutions Canning Vale Service Centre, with our team preparing additional Lee Energy Systems Gator Tools for shipment and riser equipment for upcoming offshore deployments.

Maintaining attention to detail remains essential as we meet the stringent requirements of third-party inspectors, logistics schedules, safe loading practices, and dispatch preparation.

Recently, Rob Wills of Western Well Tools and Giles Doll of R&D Solutions were on-site in rural Queensland, working in challenging conditions that included floods, flies, and cyclones. Their task was to install and deploy Non-Rotating Drill Pipe Protectors (NRDPs) for an operator.

Once installed, the tools were run as part of the drilling string to reduce torque, protect drill pipe hard banding, and minimise casing wear during drilling in a deviated well. The images show Rob keeping the flies at bay with a face net before he and Giles paused for a quick photo to mark the successful completion of Phase 1 – installation.

NRDP systems have been successfully deployed across multiple operations in Australia and form a key part of R&D Solutions’ life-of-well success story, consistently delivering reliable performance over the years.

Putting the Bite into Gator Operations

When the call went out for non-pyrotechnic Plug and Abandon tools to assist a customer, our field techs and service centre team went into action.

After a briefing on what was needed, JHA complete and tasks assigned, tools were selected for the task including, Mega Packers for annulus sealing, Gator tools for perforating large bore casing and a Releasable Packer for isolation, all were collated at short notice, complete assembly built, pressure tested and inspected before being loaded into baskets for shipping offshore. Whilst there was the obvious need to meet deadlines no corners were cut on safety or equipment build diligence, and we were very proud to witness a first-class team professionally go about their business.

As the year draws to a close, operations continue unbated. In late November R&D Solutions were busy sealing wells with KCI ECO – Seal ensuring rock solid integrity pressure tests were achieved. For years, R&D Solutions has partnered with KCI known globally for providing reliable pressure integrity sealant for wellheads, gate valves and associated wellhead and tree components. Working with this team really does emphasise the ‘Solutions’ part of our company brand.

The images captured show Field Technician Kevin Saunders deploying ‘KCI ECO-04 Seal’ material and conducting 5,000 psi sealing integrity tests which were achieved on every well in the remote Australia outback.
