How do brunettes go grey gracefully?

The trick isn’t fighting your grey or covering it completely it’s softening the line between
your natural brunette and where your grey is actually living, then working with your grey pattern instead of against it.

Here’s what that looks like in the chair. Wherever your grey is coming through heaviest usually the hairline we don’t hide it, we lean into it. In this case there was a lot of white right at the front, so instead of flattening it out with colour, we added lightness there and shaped it into a soft face frame that mimics exactly where the grey is naturally growing through.

It looks intentional because it is intentional we’re following your own pattern,
not overriding it.

Then, through the rest everywhere she has no grey yet we add depth.

That’s what gives her that rich, brunette shimmer instead of one flat, block colour from root to end.

So you end up with grey that’s celebrated at the hairline and colour that’s still deep and glossy everywhere else.

Two things doing two different jobs, both looking like they belong together.

That’s the whole idea behind grey blending it’s not about deciding “cover” or “let it all go.”

Why does grey blending look better with a toner than with foils?

Grey blending isn’t always
about about covering your grey.

It’s about working with it.

Most people think grey blending means foils breaking up the grey with lighter pieces until it fades in.

Sometimes it is.

But today’s client didn’t need that.

She already had lovely white hairs coming through and old warmth sitting in her ends from previous colour.

So instead of foils, we went in with an acidic demi toner and that’s the bit most people don’t know is even an option.

Permanent colour fights your grey.

An acidic demi works with it.

It sits into those white hairs and adds a little warmth into the silver, so instead of looking “grey,” it looks intentional almost like you’ve had foils done, without the upkeep or the damage.

At the same time, it cools down all that brassiness sitting in the ends, so everything blends into one soft, creamy tone from root to end.

If you’re transitioning to grey and worried it’ll look patchy, flat, or like you’ve “given up” on colour —this is the difference.

It’s not about hiding the grey.
