Kapha Utkleśana Day is the final preparation day before Vamana Karma (therapeutic emesis) in Panchakarma. The goal is to deliberately increase and mobilize Kapha so it accumulates in the stomach (āmāśaya), making its elimination during Vamana more effective. Classical texts describe giving Kapha-provoking (utkleśana) foods on the previous day or night to prepare for Vamana.
Purpose
* Increase and liquefy Kapha.
* Bring accumulated doshas from peripheral tissues to the gastrointestinal tract.
* Ensure complete and effective Vamana the following morning.
Typical Diet on Kapha Utkleśana Day
Foods are generally heavy, oily, sweet, sour, and Kapha-promoting,
Curd (especially at night, if appropriate for the patient)
* Whole milk
* Rice with ghee
* Black gram (Masha) preparations
* Sesame-based dishes
* Rich soups or meat soup (where traditionally indicated)
* Sweets prepared with milk and ghee.

Why dairy is usually avoided :
1. It is relatively heavy to digest (Guru)
Milk, cheese, cream, and yoghurt require a strong digestive fire. During Panchakarma, digestion is intentionally kept light so the body can focus on cleansing rather than processing heavy foods.
2. It can increase Kapha
Many dairy products are considered Kapha-promoting. Excess Kapha may lead to mucus, sluggish digestion, congestion, and a feeling of heaviness, which can interfere with the cleansing process.
3. It may contribute to Ama (metabolic waste)
If digestion is weakened, dairy can remain incompletely digested and contribute to Ama, the very substance Panchakarma seeks to eliminate.
4. It may reduce the effectiveness of detoxification
Simple, warm, easily digestible foods allow the body to eliminate toxins more efficiently. Heavy dairy products can slow this process.
These are commonly avoided during Panchkarma :
* Cheese
* Cream
* Ice cream
* Yoghurt/curd (especially at night)
* Butter
* Flavoured or sweetened dairy products

Foods During Panchakarma 🌿
Panchakarma is more than a detox—it is a process of restoring balance. During this time, your digestive fire (Agni) becomes delicate and needs gentle nourishment. Choosing the right foods allows your body to heal, rejuvenate, and eliminate toxins effectively.
Recommended foods during Panchakarma:
• Warm Moong Bean Rice Kanji (Kitchari)
• Thin rice gruel (Peya)
• Moong dal soup
• Well-cooked rice
• Steamed seasonal vegetables

Snehapana is one of the most important preparatory steps of Panchakarma. In this process, specially selected medicated ghee (Ghrita) is consumed in gradually increasing quantities under the guidance of an Ayurvedic practitioner.
The purpose is not simply to drink ghee—it is to loosen and mobilise deeply seated toxins (Ama) from the tissues and bring them into the digestive tract, where they can be safely eliminated during Panchakarma therapies like Vamana or Virechana.
During Snehapana:
✨ The type of medicated ghee is chosen according to your Prakriti (constitution) and health condition.
✨ The dose is increased gradually over several days.
✨ A light, warm, easily digestible diet is followed.
✨ Adequate rest and avoiding physical or mental exertion are essential.
As the body becomes properly oleated, you may notice signs such as:
• Softer, well-lubricated skin
• Improved bowel movements
• A sense of lightness
• Reduced dryness
Snehapana should always be performed under professional Ayurvedic supervision, as the medicine, dosage, and duration are tailored to each individual.
