Our first is Brooke who writes the “The Beauty Edit with Beauty by Brooke”.

What inspired you to specialize in this field, and how long have you been working in it?

It was the unfortunate circumstances of the 2020 Covid lockdowns that pushed me to seek a career that truly resonated with my spirit. Determined to pursue my dreams, I took the leap and dedicated myself to full-time studies. In 2021, I proudly graduated with a Beauty Therapy Diploma and transformed a spare bedroom into my very own salon. I’m entering my fourth year, and I haven’t looked back.

What’s the most significant trend or change you have observed in your area of expertise recently?

The most significant trend and my personal favourite has been the shift from full glam to more natural, effortless beauty. I’m passionate about enhancing natural features and creating looks that celebrate individuality. In 2023, I decided to ditch the lash extensions to focus entirely on my favourite treatments: lash lifts and brows. This allowed me to dedicate myself fully to upskilling and becoming the best at what I love most.

What’s one common misconception about your field that you’d like to debunk?

There’s a common misconception that a career in beauty isn’t lucrative or sustainable, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Choosing to follow my passion and run my own beauty salon has been life-changing, offering not only creative fulfilment but also incredible flexibility and financial reward. I was amazed to discover that by building a business I love, I now earn more working just 10 hours a week than I ever did working a traditional 38-hour schedule, including late nights and weekends. It’s proof that pursuing your passion and believing in yourself can lead to a thriving, balanced life.

What’s a recent challenge in your industry that you have tackled?

A recent challenge in the beauty industry has been the rising cost of living, which has led many people to cut self-care from their budgets. Additionally, with increasing supply costs, many salons have had to raise their prices. However, I’ve noticed a positive shift as more people recognise that self-care is not just a luxury, but an essential part of their well-being. Despite the challenges, I’ve been fortunate to see my bookings remain full, often weeks in advance. It’s a testament to the fact that when self-care is prioritised, it truly makes a difference in people’s happiness and overall quality of life.

What’s the most valuable lesson or insight you have gained from your experience in this field?

The most valuable lesson I’ve learned in this field is the importance of setting clear boundaries and enforcing my terms and conditions. Staying professional and respectful helps ensure that both my clients and I have a positive, mutually respectful relationship. This journey has also taught me that the clients I see regularly treat me with more love than I sometimes receive from close friends, reminding me that I deserve to be valued and treated well in both my professional and personal life.


What keeps you busy when you are not working?

When I’m not working, my time is filled with the hustle of being a mum to my two beautiful kids. My eldest is almost 2, and my youngest is just 8 weeks old. During the day, I’m a stay-at-home mum, raising my little ones and maintaining the household. In the afternoons, I start work at 5 pm, balancing my passion for beauty with family life. My amazing husband and I love spending time together as a family, and one of our favourite things to do is head to the beach with the kids. Being a mum keeps me busy, but it’s also incredibly rewarding!

My beautiful friend will be finishing up her last month here at Beauty by Brooke. While I am deeply saddened to see such an amazing support system leave, I am incredibly proud of all she has accomplished since starting her own business over the past year.
Sienna took a leap of faith to put her all into her new venture, and it just so happened that she found my salon to rent…a blessing for both of us. Not only are we best friends, but she’s also the best aunty ever to my son Kobe. Sienna has the most amazing soul, and I’m thrilled to see how much she has excelled in the past year. She will be opening her own salon at her home now, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her. I’m so glad I could be there to help her start out on her own, and we’ve learned so much from each other. I’m going to miss seeing you every day!

I know a lot of natural red heads love a brown brow colour, but trust me adding a little tiny touch of red dye can look soo natural if you love embracing your natural colour.

I’ve seen so many people posting for “cheap” lashes and “lash lifts under $50” lately, and it truly makes me wonder why. When I hear someone asking for cheap services, it’s a sign that the client doesn’t know what they’re really getting into for that price tag. The only reason a lash lift should be under $50 is for training purposes or models, in my opinion.
Cheap =
- Less experience
- Less knowledge
- Poor products (possibly below industry standard AKA Amazon or Kmart eek)

This all results in poor results, unhappy clients, and overall damaged lashes. I completely understand the need to save money, especially during times like these. However, please don’t sacrifice the health of your lashes without doing your research first!
