Burnout isn’t always just “I need a holiday.”
Dr Maddi breaks down the difference between emotional burnout and what we call neurological burnout.
Emotional burnout is the stuff you feel: flat, overwhelmed, running on fumes. Rest, boundaries and support go a long way.
Neurological burnout is what’s happening underneath. It’s when your nervous system has been stuck in stress mode for so long it struggles to shift back into rest and recovery, even when life slows down.
That’s why a weekend off doesn’t always fix it.
In clinic, we use an HRV (heart rate variability) scan to look at how your nervous system is adapting to stress, and where it sits across the four stages we track. It gives us a clear starting point instead of a guess.
💬 Comment SCAN and we’ll send you the details on how it works.
Had a lovely guy reach out yesterday asking for a “quick crack.”
We had to be honest with him. That’s not what we do.
Healing Wave is a neurologically focused family practice. We start with the nervous system, not just the sore spot. That means a proper assessment, a scan, and a plan built around what’s actually going on.
The people who tend to find us are usually:
→ Mums running on empty
→ Kids who are wired and can’t switch off
→ Professionals stuck in stress mode all day
If that sounds like your house right now, you’re in the right place.

Late nights, big days out, screens, sugar, broken routines. By week two a lot of parents are telling us the same thing: their kids are tired. Meltdowns over nothing. Trouble settling at night. Short fuses all round.
Dr. Maddi talks through what we see in practice every holidays, and why it’s often a sign their little nervous system is running on empty.
Routines help. Sleep helps. Downtime helps. And sometimes it’s worth getting a proper look at how their nervous system is coping.
If your kids have been extra wobbly these holidays, bring them in before term starts. We’ll check how they’re adapting and chat about what might help.

⏰ Daylight saving springs forward at 2am Sunday 4 October (NEXT SUNDAY)— and that one hour is a bigger deal than it sounds.
Your circadian rhythm runs your whole sleep-wake cycle, and your nervous system relies on it staying consistent. Shift the clock an hour and your body spends the next few days playing catch-up. 😴
Swipe through for 3 simple hacks to spring forward without the slump 👉
The short version:
1️⃣ Ease bedtime 15 mins earlier each night from now
2️⃣ Get up at the same time Sunday morning — even if a sleep-in is calling
3️⃣ Get morning sunlight to reset your clock fast
Because when you rest well, you recover well — and that's when your body does its best work. 💙
