Hair snapping when you brush it? Losing its bounce? Fading colour fast? Your hair’s asking for protein. 🧬

Hair is primarily made of protein β€” it’s what gives each strand its strength, structure and spring. When protein runs low (from lightening, heat styling, chlorine, salt water or just time), hair becomes weak, brittle and tired. And the signs are often more obvious than you think.

Signs your hair needs protein:
πŸ’” Breakage, split ends, loss of length
πŸ’” No elasticity β€” hair doesn’t β€œspring back” when stretched
πŸ’” Limp, stringy, lifeless appearance
πŸ’” Dull, frizzy texture
πŸ’” Increased shedding
πŸ’” Colour that fades fast or won’t β€œtake”
πŸ’” Hair that won’t hold a curl or style

Sound familiar? Meet our Rebuild Protein Treatment β€” a fortifying protein and amino acid complex that rebuilds, repairs and restores your hair from the inside out.

How it works:
🧬 Strengthens β€” amino acids rebuild your hair’s keratin structure, reducing breakage and boosting elasticity
🧬 Repairs β€” fills gaps and tears in the cuticle for smoother, stronger strands
🧬 Reduces porosity β€” a sealed cuticle means better colour absorption, retention and less fading
🧬 Moisturises β€” improves hydration retention, cutting frizz and boosting manageability
🧬 Enhances shine β€” a smoother cuticle reflects light beautifully

Powered by:
Hydrolysed Rice Protein, Rose, Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Inositol, Colloidal Oat, Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) and a full amino acid complex. Formulated without silicones, SLS/SLES, phthalates or parabens.

How to use:
Apply every 3–6 weeks for maintenance. If your hair is porous or damaged, use 2 days before colouring β€” it fills the gaps in your cuticle, creating a healthier canvas for better colour absorption, retention and shine.

Colour coming out darker than expected? Fading too fast? Here's the culprit: hair porosity. πŸ’§

Porosity is one of the most underrated factors in home colouring β€” but once you understand yours, almost every mystery colour result starts to make sense.

What is porosity?
Simply put, it's your hair's ability to absorb moisture. The more porous your hair, the more "gaps" there are in the outer cuticle layer β€” gaps that affect how your hair behaves with colour, moisture, heat and products.

Who's more likely to have porous hair?
πŸ’§ Hair that's naturally fine, thin, or curly (thinner cuticle layer)
πŸ’§ Previously lightened, bleached or heavily processed hair
πŸ’§ Hair exposed to a lot of sun, chlorine, salt water or heat styling

How porosity affects your colour:

πŸ”Έ Over-absorption = darker, duller results
Porous hair soaks colour up too quickly, grabbing more pigment than intended. The result? A finish that comes out deeper and flatter than the swatch promised.

πŸ”Έ Rapid fade = colour that doesn't stay
Those same raised cuticles that over-absorb pigment also let it leak back out β€” so your colour fades fast and ends up looking tired within weeks.

πŸ”Έ Frizzy, puffy texture + split ends
Common companions of porous hair, and visible signs that your cuticle needs support.

How to manage porous hair:

✨ Rebuild Protein Treatment β€” fills the gaps in your cuticle, restores strength and resilience, and dramatically improves colour performance
✨ Repair Mask β€” deeply hydrates and nourishes to soften, smooth and seal the cuticle
✨ Simplify your routine β€” easier on heated styling, lightening and chemical processing. Porous hair thrives on TLC.

Our colourists can tailor your colour technique (and product recommendations) to work with your porosity, not against it β€” for free.

Meet the copper trend that's stealing everyone's feed: Cowgirl Copper. 🀠

Auburn is having a moment β€” and cowgirl copper is its most wearable, most flattering, and most low-maintenance form yet.

Think rich caramel + soft copper + a base that sits right between brunette and blonde. Inspired by the warm, burnished hues of Western leather, cowgirl copper is bolder than balayage but softer than a full copper β€” a statement colour that still feels natural and effortless.

Why we love it:
🀎 More wearable than bright copper β€” muted and elegant
🀎 Healthier than going blonde β€” no repeated lightening required
🀎 Universally flattering on medium/light brown through to dark blonde bases
🀎 Beautifully covers greys when blended with a neutral

The formula:
The secret to that soft, western-glow finish is a Duo blend of ΒΎ neutral + ΒΌ copper. Less is more.

Choose your copper:
πŸ”Έ Palermo 7.43 Golden Copper Blonde
πŸ”Έ Vicenza 6.43 Dark Golden Copper Blonde
πŸ”Έ Trieste 6.34 Light Golden Copper Brown

Blend with a neutral base:
πŸ”Ή Genoa 6 Light Brown
πŸ”Ή Napoli 7 Dark Blonde
πŸ”Ή Sicily 8 Medium Blonde

Not ready to commit? Try adding copper tones with a semi-permanent or demi-permanent developer for a temporary version β€” perfect for a summer try-out without the long-term commitment.

Bonus: Because you only use ΒΌ of the copper per application, one copper tube lasts significantly longer than the neutral β€” great value from every kit.

Dark ring around your crown? That's colour banding β€” and here's how to stop it. 🎯

Colour banding (also called the halo effect) is that darker, duller band that appears when new colour layers over previously coloured hair. Your roots come out fresh and vibrant… but your lengths get darker and duller each time you colour. Over months, that's how you end up with a two-tone finish and hair that looks flat.

The good news? It's completely avoidable with three colourist habits πŸ‘‡

⏱️ 1. Respect the timing
On a full-length application, your lengths don't need the same processing time as your roots. Our instructions include a shorter processing time on the lengths for exactly this reason β€” to stop colour building up. Follow them exactly.

🎨 2. Use the Colour Perfection approach
This is the gold standard for avoiding banding altogether. Permanent colour + 20 vol (or 27 vol for stubborn greys) on your roots only. Semi-permanent colour with 5 vol developer through your lengths β€” boosts colour, tone and shine without any layering or build-up.

πŸ–ŒοΈ 3. Nail your placement
For root touch-ups, use a tint brush to apply colour right up to (but not over) the regrowth line. Salon accessories aren't a luxury β€” they're the difference between a seamless one-tone finish and that dreaded halo.

Bonus tip: Keep your root touch-ups on a consistent, regular schedule β€” bigger gaps between colours mean more regrowth to cover, which increases the risk of accidental overlap.

Have you battled colour banding before, or is this the first you've heard of it? Tell us in the comments πŸ‘‡

Can't decide between blonde and brunette? Meet bronde. ✨

Bronde is the beautiful middle ground β€” a soft, sun-kissed blend of light brown and medium blonde that sits between Levels 6 and 8. Less commitment than going platinum, less flat than staying dark, and infinitely more flattering than either one alone.

Why women are choosing bronde over blonde:

🀎 Healthier hair β€” brondes with more depth often skip the repeated lightening required for platinum, meaning stronger, shinier, better-condition hair
🀎 Easier maintenance β€” regrowth is softer and more forgiving, so you're not chasing roots every 3 weeks
🀎 A glossier finish β€” depth reflects light beautifully; over-lightened blonde often looks dry and washed out
🀎 Universally flattering β€” works with cool, warm and neutral complexions alike

Find your perfect bronde:

🩢 Bronde Brunette (going lighter from a dark base)
Cool tones are essential to mute the warmth revealed by lightening. Try our Duo blend of Montecristo 6.1 Light Ash Brown + Bellaria 7.1 Dark Ash Blonde β€” depth and lightness in one gorgeous, tonally-balanced result.

✨ Softer Bronde (adding depth to a lighter blonde)
Very light blondes can look washed out β€” a hint of depth adds contrast and freshness. Blend a level 7 dark blonde with a level 8 or 9 for a beautiful multi-tonal finish.

🀎 Warmer Bronde (adding golden glow)
For a burnished, chestnut-touched bronde, try Lucca 7.53 Chocolate Blonde β€” a soft dark blonde with warm chestnut and copper undertones. A little goes a long way.

The most beautiful thing about bronde? It's the natural choice β€” the shade that looks like you were born with it (only better).

Roots looking lighter, brighter or orange than the rest of your hair? Meet "hot roots" β€” and how to stop them. πŸ”₯

Hot roots happen when your regrowth ends up visibly warmer or lighter than the rest of your colour β€” that unwanted orange-y, brassy halo around your scalp. It's one of the most common home-colouring frustrations (and even happens in salons), but once you understand why, it's completely fixable.

Why hot roots happen:

πŸ”₯ Cause 1 β€” Colour can't lift colour.
If your lengths have older, darker colour in them, and you apply a lighter shade over the top, only your virgin regrowth will actually lift. Your roots end up brighter than your lengths.

πŸ”₯ Cause 2 β€” Your scalp is warm.
Colour processes faster at the roots because of body heat. If you're using a warm or neutral shade that's even slightly lighter than your natural colour, that extra processing plus revealed natural warmth = hot roots.

How to avoid hot roots:

🩢 Choose cool tones when lightening β€” even a 1-level lift reveals natural warmth. Cool tones counter-balance it.
🩢 Bleach wash your lengths first if they have older, darker colour you want to lighten to match your new lift level.
🩢 Covering greys with warm tones? Blend your warm colour with a neutral. Neutrals fill the missing pigment in greys and anchor the tone β€” otherwise warm colours pop bright and brassy over greys.

How to fix hot roots (if you're already there):

βœ” Apply a cool, slightly deeper shade to your roots only as a "root smudge" β€” adds depth + dimension
βœ” Switch to a cool-based colour next time
βœ” Use a toner to deposit cool tones and neutralise warmth
βœ” For greys, try a Duo Colour Kit β€” everything you need to blend a warm + neutral for even, consistent coverage

If you're battling hot roots, our colourists will help you nail the right colour + technique for your hair β€” for free. πŸ’Œ

Fistfuls of hair in the shower drain? You're not alone. 🌿

Hair shedding can be one of the most quietly distressing things β€” the extra strands in the hairbrush, the ponytail that's not as thick as it used to be, that moment in the shower where clumps come loose in your hands.

If any of that sounds familiar, take a deep breath. Shedding is different to hair loss β€” and in most cases, it's reversible.

A little context:
The average person sheds 50–100 strands a day (yes, really). Excess shedding is usually a sign that something in the background needs attention β€” often nutrition, scalp health, stress, hormones, or the products you're using.

Common triggers:
🌱 Post-partum β€” your body prioritises baby recovery over hair; this is temporary and normal
🌱 Aging + hormones β€” as we age, hair's growth phase shortens and DHT can weaken follicles
🌱 Stress + poor sleep β€” cortisol pushes hair prematurely into the shedding phase
🌱 Nutritional gaps β€” zinc, iron, B vitamins, biotin, folic acid all play a role
🌱 Harsh products β€” silicones and synthetic chemicals can suffocate the scalp

How to gently turn things around:

πŸ’š Nourish from the inside β€” sleep, hydration, green vegies, water, and (if in doubt) a chat with your GP
πŸ’š Rethink your scalp environment β€” your scalp is where hair growth happens; treat it like the skin it is
πŸ’š Choose gentler styles β€” loose ponytails, low buns, claw clips instead of tight braids or cornrows
πŸ’š Feed your follicles topically β€” our Restore range (Scalp & Hair Therapy Oil, Hair Food Oil, and Scalp Therapy Spray) is 100% plant-based and packed with scientifically-proven botanicals like kakadu plum, biotin, spirulina and green tea. They calm inflammation, reduce DHT, boost circulation and create the healthiest possible environment for new growth 🌿

The most important thing to remember: you're not imagining it, you're not alone, and there's plenty you can do. Small consistent steps can make a real difference.

If you've navigated a shedding season yourself, what helped? Share below β€” your story might be exactly what someone else needs to hear today πŸ’š

Think toners are just for blondes? Think again. 🀎

Brassy tones aren't just a blonde problem. Brunettes get them too β€” that unwanted warm, orange or reddish tint that creeps in over time, especially if your hair has been lightened, sun-exposed, or heat-styled.

The fix? A brunette toner.

What toners do:
Toners deposit cool violet secondary tones (the natural opposite of orange and red on the colour wheel) plus a beautiful high-shine finish. They don't lift, lighten or change your base colour β€” they simply refine, balance and cool down unwanted warmth. Sleek, glossy, tonally-perfect brunette locks β€” done.

Why brunettes love them:
βœ” Mute unwanted orange, red or warm gold tones
βœ” Add high shine and gloss
βœ” Refresh colour between full applications
βœ” Won't lighten or lift β€” gentle enough to use often
βœ” Quick β€” just 20 minutes processing time

How to choose your toner:
🀎 Select a toner at the same level, or one level lighter than the lightest colour in your hair
🀎 If you have highlights, choose close to your lightest highlight level β€” this refines both the highlights AND your base colour
🀎 We offer toners for every brunette level β€” from darkest black-brown right through to lighter brondes

Between full colour applications, a toner is the fastest way to keep your brunette looking salon-fresh β€” without any lifting, damage or commitment.

Have you tried a brunette toner before, or is this a new one for you? Tell us in the comments and our colourists will help you find your perfect match πŸ‘‡

"I'll just apply a lighter colour on top." Ah β€” about that. ✨

Here's a myth-busting colouring fact that catches almost everyone out: colour cannot lift colour. If you already have dye in your hair and you apply a lighter shade on top, it won't lighten. You'll just end up with warm, brassy roots against darker lengths β€” the dreaded "hot roots" look.

So how do you go lighter when your hair is already coloured? You have three colourist-approved options πŸ‘‡

πŸ‹ 1. Vitamin C Colour Pigment Remover
Our bleach- and peroxide-free antioxidant formula gently lifts out 1–3 levels of oxidative colour pigments (permanent, semi and demi-permanent). It won't damage your hair, and it won't lighten you beyond your natural colour level. Perfect if your current colour has gone too dark, too warm, or just needs a reset.

πŸ’« 2. Highlights Kit
Add dimension and softness with fine babylights, classic highlights or foilyage. Our Highlights Kit includes everything (and illustrated instructions for each technique) β€” so you can lift your look without committing to an all-over lightening process.

☁️ 3. Bleach Wash Kit
If you want to go significantly lighter (2–3 levels), a bleach wash will lift out darker pigments and give you a lighter base to work with. Just remember: any lightening process reveals natural warmth, so a cool-toned colour afterwards is almost always essential.

Not sure which option is right for you? Our colourists can help you plan the safest, gentlest path to your dream colour β€” for free.

Which "going lighter" story is yours β€” the accidental hot roots, the gradual lift over time, or dreaming of a big change? Tell us in the comments πŸ‘‡

Want blonde. Ended up orange. Sound familiar? 🍊😩

You're not alone β€” brassy, orange, or reddish hair after lightening is one of the most common colouring frustrations there is. And here's the good news: there's a real science to why it happens, and once you understand it, it becomes completely fixable.

Why hair goes brassy when you lighten it:
Your natural hair colour contains multiple pigments β€” cool tones (small molecules) and warm tones (large molecules). When you lighten, the cool tones lift out first. The warm red/orange pigments are much bigger and cling on longer β€” which is why lightened hair almost always reveals visible warmth.

This is called Natural Contributing Pigment (NCP) β€” and every hairdresser has to account for it. Once you know about NCP, brassy hair stops being a mystery.

How to fix it (four options):

🧑 1. Lighten further β€” A stronger 27 vol developer, or a bleach wash, will lift more of the stubborn warm pigments. Follow with a cool-based colour.

πŸ–€ 2. Add depth β€” Going a shade darker with cool tones can beautifully cover unwanted warmth without any further lightening.

🩢 3. Add cool tones β€” A toner (deposit only, lasts ~10 washes) or a demi-permanent cool colour (~24 washes) will counter-balance warmth without touching your base.

πŸ’œ 4. Use a violet-pigmented care range β€” Our Brass-Banishing Blonde Shampoo, Conditioner and Mask deposit violet tones with every wash β€” so you're actively fighting brassiness between colour appointments.

Prevention for next time:
βœ” Colour closer to your natural level (less lifting = less revealed warmth)
βœ” Always use cool-toned colours when lightening (ash tones are your best friend)

Have you battled brassy hair before? Tell us in the comments β€” and one of our colourists will point you to your perfect fix πŸ‘‡
