5 years ago today I took over from the one and only Nick Downie as owner of All the Kings Men. That night we went back into lockdown for 107 days. Rocky start to say the least….
I started a hairdressing apprenticeship when I was 17 years old not aware of the significance it would play in my life. 23 years and tens and thousands of haircuts later I’m writing this post today, very proud.
The four walls of Level 2 34/36 Block Place have made so many happy memories in the last 5 years. I celebrated my wedding to Haley in there, laughed and cried with thousands of friends, clients, colleagues, kicked on after gigs, danced on the chequered floors and thrown the best NYE parties on the roof.
The biggest thank you to Ange, Gayle, Alex, Billy, Tommy, Wayne, Max, Renata and Nick for standing beside me and cutting hair over the years. Here’s to 5 more years of shaving necks and cashing cheques! 🤘…….oh and thanks Hales for my 5 years shirt (how good is it) and everything.

We have a brand new sign and we absolutely love it. Big thanks to Phil for this classic example of quality sign writing. Isn’t she beautiful??????

Have you ever wondered how our windows stay so clean? Who fills up the lolly jar? Who catches the tram up to the stock shop to buy us razor blades and shaving cream? Well his name is Max and today is his 18th Birthday. We have had the pleasure of knowing him since he was destroying garden gnomes for us in North Melbourne. He comes to the shop for 3 hours every week when he’s not too busy being the school captain, shredding on his guitar or working his other job at Bread Club (our former home). We couldn’t be more proud of him and the person he’s becoming. Apparently we’re going out tonight, if you see us buy Max a drink.

Hey friends of the shop and clients! We’re asking for a little help. It seems that there’s a Barber shop moving in directly below us on the ground level. Although we’re not overly worried we do feel that it could affect new clients finding us. So…. If you’ve ever had a good haircut at All the Kings Men and like what we do we’d really appreciate a positive Google review. Believe it or not it really helps! Maybe a couple of people could mention how easy we are to find upstairs….
