We laugh about pregnancy cravings.
But biologically, pregnancy isn’t a sharing system.

If calcium intake is low,
the fetus pulls it from maternal bone.

If protein is insufficient,
maternal muscle tissue is broken down to support growth.

Research shows some women lose 5-10% of bone mineral density during pregnancy and lactation.
Comparable to early osteopenia.

Iron, iodine, and DHA are prioritized for fetal brain development.
When intake is inadequate, maternal stores are depleted first.

This is why postpartum fatigue, weakness, hair loss, and mood changes are so common.
The body protected the baby.
Recovery was postponed.

Pregnancy isn’t just about growing a child.
It’s about whether the mother is nutritionally protected while doing it.

Strong babies don’t require depleted mothers.
But depleted mothers are often the hidden cost.

Opening up about postnatal depression | You Can't Ask That 07/01/2025

There’s no strength in being silent!

Have you seen the series…
YOU CAN’T ASK THAT?

This show on the ABC recently covered - Postnatal Depression.

They had 8 parents exploring the shame, public & family pressure and the personal guilt that surrounds this often misunderstood & taboo topic.

I speak to many postnatal mums especially, who say no one speaks to you about the months following the birth of your baby.

It’s not about scaring people but making us aware & realising the importance of having a network of support around a new family. For both mums & dads!

Opening up about postnatal depression | You Can't Ask That Parents open up about their struggles with postnatal depression and some experiences they went through. now: http://ab.co/subscribeN...
