Someone asked me recently if their skin was “good for their age.”
I could’ve said “oh, absolutely!” and moved on, but I don’t really do that, and the question stuck with me, because I’m not sure “good for your age” means what we’ve been taught it means.
We’ve been sold the idea that the goal is to look younger than the date on your licence. That skin only counts as good if it’s passing for a decade ago.
I see it differently. Good skin is healthy skin. A strong barrier, calm and resilient, doing its job. That tells me far more about how someone’s actually doing than whether they’ve kept every line off their face.
And the lines? They came from somewhere. Squinting in the sun on good days. Laughing properly. Living a life that left a mark, because it was actually lived.
