🌼 Behind every Moon Haven product is a lot more than what you see on the label.

Our herbal ingredients are a big part of what makes Moon Haven what it is.

Calendula is one of those herbs we come back to again and again. We steep organic calendula petals in sunflower oil for six weeks in the sun to create the infusion that sits behind products like our Calendula Salve and Calendula Petal Soap☀️

It’s one of those behind-the-scenes steps that usually goes unseen, but the herbs, the preparation and the time we put into them are a big part of what goes into what we make.

Dry, chafed, easily irritated skin can make even the smallest things uncomfortable.

That’s where our Calendula Salve comes in.

At the heart of it is our calendula infusion. Calendula is traditionally associated with soothing delicate, irritated-feeling skin and calming visible redness 🌼

We make our calendula infusion using organically grown golden calendula petals, leaving them to infuse in sunflower oil for six weeks before that oil becomes the base of the salve.

🫙It’s a simple little jar, but there’s a lot of care behind it, and with the shelf running low, Laura and Julia will be making another batch very soon. Keep an eye out for the process 👀

☀️ We have to admit, the new workspace on the farm has a few perks.

It’s peaceful, there’s plenty of space to get on with things and, during the school holidays, Laura has discovered it can also be a very convenient place to find a little quiet time.

We feel pretty lucky to have this spot to work from, especially on a beautiful spring day like this.

Hope all our moonies in the middle of school holidays are getting a little bit of sunshine and perhaps even a quiet moment or two of their own.

📦 Ever wondered what actually fills a day at Moon Haven once the orders are packed?
That is where the day can head in all sorts of directions.
Some days it is soapmaking. Other days it might be preparing herbal infusions, restocking, pouring oils or simply working through whatever needs attention next.
That is probably the part people do not see as often. There is a lot happening in the background between an order coming in and the finished products heading out.
What would you like to see more of behind the scenes?

🧼 Some soap batches are apparently more appetising than others.
Chris and Julia are making a fresh batch of our Lemongrass Soap, and Chris has some fairly strong opinions about the colour before it becomes the finished bar 😂
Thankfully, soapmaking has never required the mixture to look particularly delicious along the way.

🐾 Pet-safe aromatherapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer.

If you share your home with cats or dogs, it’s worth being a little more thoughtful about what goes into the diffuser and how you use it.
