Does my teen really need a facial? And how young is too young to start skincare? 💖

These are questions I often hear from parents and the answer isn’t always as straightforward as you might think!

As children approach puberty, hormonal changes can bring increased oil production, congestion, blackheads and breakouts, sometimes much earlier than parents expect.

But something I really want parents to understand is that not every teenager needs acne treatments, complicated skincare routines or regular professional facials.

Every child’s skin is different and their skincare should reflect that.

✨This is why I love Dermalogica’s Clear Start range! Specifically formulated for younger, breakout-prone skin. It’s a fantastic introduction to professional skincare, helping teenagers manage common skin concerns while developing healthy skincare habits.

But we know not every teenager experiences breakouts! For some, a gentle cleanser, lightweight moisturiser and daily SPF may be all their skin needs.

I’ve put together this little guide to help answer some of the most common questions parents have about teen skincare and professional facials, including when to start, what to expect and how to support their changing skin.

Beauty by Bryony is a little different and there are reasons for that. 🩷

I’ve put so much thought, care and intention into not only what I offer, but how I want people to feel when they walk through my door and how I operate my business.

Some of those reasons are professional. Some are personal. And some come from my own life experiences.

So this is a little bit about the why behind Beauty by Bryony.

That post-facial glow ✨

This client has been seeing me for a while now and I couldn’t help but share how plump, hydrated and glowing her skin is looking.

A perfect example of what consistent in-clinic treatments + the right home care routine can do for your skin 🤍

Healthy, hydrated skin will always be the goal ✨

And that little post-facial flush? Completely normal immediately after treatment and will settle. 🥰

Your skin is always communicating with you. The trick is learning what those changes actually mean and Sometimes that means we need to look at the bigger picture.

Your skin barrier.
Your current routine.
Recent changes.
Lifestyle and hormones.
How your skin is responding to treatments.

That is why I take the time to understand what your skin is doing, not just what you can see. 💗

Your reminder to book your September facial ✨

Warm towels, massage, LED, carefully selected products, quiet time… just a little moment for you to relax, unwind and let me take care of your skin.

Because sometimes a facial is just as much about the pause as it is the skin.

Pregnancy can change the way your skin behaves, sometimes quite noticeably.

Hormonal changes can influence oil production, sensitivity and pigmentation. For some people, this can mean more congestion, a more reactive skin barrier, or areas of pigment becoming more visible.

It is also a time when your usual skincare routine may need a second look. Not because you need an entirely new routine, but because certain ingredients may need to be reviewed and your skin may simply need different support.

In this reel, Katie shares the Dermalogica products she is using during pregnancy and explains why they have a place in her routine.

One thing we are particularly mindful of during pregnancy is pigmentation. Hormonal changes can make pigment more easily triggered, so consistent daily sun protection is an important part of helping to minimise further darkening.

If you are pregnant and looking at your bathroom shelf wondering what stays and what needs adjusting, bring your routine in. I can help you simplify it and make sure it is appropriate for your skin at this stage. 💗

Rosacea is complex, and supporting the skin isn’t always just about what we put on the outside.

At Beauty by Bryony, I’ll always look at the bigger picture with you — your skin barrier, products, treatments, lifestyle, known triggers and the patterns you’re noticing with your skin.

For some clients, there may also be internal factors worth exploring, such as digestion, stress, sleep, nutrition or inflammatory patterns.

That doesn’t mean everyone needs additional support, but if I feel there may be more going on internally or if you’d like to investigate things further, I can refer you to Kiah at Kiah Reid ꩜ Naturopath & Doula who can support you more deeply in these areas.

My role is to guide you with your skin, help you understand what may be contributing to your flare patterns and make sure you have the right support around you if and when you need it.

Because managing rosacea is not about one product, one treatment or one trigger - it’s about understanding your skin and finding the approach that works best for you. 💗

So grateful this is what I get to do every day. 💗

Dry skin and dehydrated skin can look almost identical but they’re not the same thing and treating them the same way can leave you wondering why your skincare just isn’t working.

One is lacking oil/lipids, the other is lacking water and sometimes your skin can be experiencing both at once.

That’s why understanding what your skin is actually lacking matters more than simply adding more products to your routine.

Swipe through for a simple breakdown of the difference, what to look for, and what your skin may actually need. 🤍

Still unsure? An OBSERV Skin Consultation allows me to take a much deeper look at what’s happening beneath the surface of your skin and recommend the products and treatments that will best support your skin.
