Fresh curly s**g for your last 12 shows. What a treat to see you today Casey Donovan !!
You can’t take weight out of a curl without putting volume somewhere else.
One of the biggest curly hair cutting tips I teach is to stop thinking about thinning curls and start thinking about borrowing.
When dry-cutting curly, wavy and natural texture, removing weight can create volume in another part of the haircut. It’s not something to be surprised by. It’s something to plan for.
The key is understanding curl behaviour, knowing how your cutting technique will influence the shape, and being intentional about where you remove weight and where that volume will land.
This is the difference between simply taking bulk out of curly hair and actually sculpting a shape that works with the hair’s natural behaviour.
Curly hair cutting is about more than removing weight. It’s about understanding shape, balance, volume and movement.
For hairdressers wanting to improve their curly hair cutting skills, these are the details that make all the difference.

A few nuggets of advice for dry-cutting curly hair into bold, circular shapes.
I cut this shape on my friend Jake for my Curls Need Therapy Too session in Melbourne with K18, and I’ve tried to pack as many little technical tips into the video as I can.
Because when it comes to curly hair cutting, these bold, circular shapes can be one of the biggest fears for hairdressers. I actually find them really straightforward.
The trick is understanding how the hair behaves dry, where the weight is sitting, how the curl pattern moves, and how to build the shape without fighting the natural texture.
And the best bit? A good dry-cutting curly haircut doesn’t have to take forever. This one takes about the same amount of time as a regular haircut.
If you’re a hairdresser looking to build your confidence with dry-cutting, curly hair cutting and natural texture, I’ll be sharing more curly hair education and technical cutting advice next year.

HAIR FOR THE MUNDANE.
Delilah is all about hair for every occasion. Not just the big ones.
Not just Saturday night. Not just weddings, parties and the days when you’ve actually made an effort.
We’re talking real life. The ordinary days. The days when you’re busy, distracted, running around, staying home, heading out, getting things done or doing absolutely nothing.
Because that’s where most of life actually happens.
We make wash and wear hair for real life. Hair that works with your natural texture, moves with you and still looks like you when you’ve done very little to it.
Our approach to cutting and products is all about making your hair easier to live in, rather than giving you another job to do.
Straight, wavy, curly or somewhere in between. Your hair doesn’t need to be tamed into submission. It just needs a good cut, the right products and a little understanding of how it behaves.
Hair for the mundane.
Hair for the in-between moments.
Hair for living in.
That’s Delilah.
Refresh or retexturise. You choose.
Two sprays. Two ways to bring your hair back to life.
HYDRO by Delilah is your moisture-based refresh. Made with rose water, Japanese vodka, aloe vera, glycerin and wheat protein, it reactivates the product already in your hair, adds moisture and helps bring curls and waves back to life between washes.
TEX by Delilah can refresh too, but with a little more texture. Made with grapefruit water, Japanese vodka, aloe vera, glycerin, wheat protein and a touch of salt, TEX brings back movement, volume and that slightly undone, beachy feel. Perfect when your hair has gone a little flat and you want to retexturise rather than simply add moisture.
And you don’t have to choose.
Use HYDRO, use TEX, or use both together depending on what your hair needs that day.
For curly hair, wavy hair, natural texture and good old wash-and-wear hair.
Refresh or retexturise. You choose.
HYDRO + TEX by Delilah.
How often should you wash curly or wavy hair?
For medium to coarse curly and wavy hair, one of the biggest mistakes I see is over-washing.
People sit in my chair frustrated because their hair is flat, fluffy, dry and their curls aren’t forming properly. They’re washing every two or three days, then wondering why it takes another two or three days for their natural texture to settle back in.
Curly and wavy hair often needs less washing, not more.
Try shampooing and conditioning once a week, or even once a fortnight, and give your natural oils a chance to come back through. Those natural oils can help your curls and waves clump, soften and behave more naturally.
Between washes, use a co-wash.
Our Delilah Co-Wash + Wear is a cleansing conditioner designed to freshen up curly and wavy hair between shampoo washes. It cleanses without stripping away everything your hair naturally produces.
And if your hair just needs a refresh rather than another wash, reach for HYDRO.
HYDRO is our water-based curl refreshing spray. Seven to ten pumps through your hair can reactivate pre-existing product, bring moisture back into the hair and help bring your natural curl and wave pattern back to life.
So if you’re constantly washing your curly or wavy hair because you don’t know how to refresh it, try changing the routine:
Shampoo + conditioner: once a week or once a fortnight.
Co-wash: between washes when your hair needs a clean-up.
HYDRO: whenever your curls or waves need a refresh.
Less washing. More natural oils. More wash-and-wear hair.
We make both Co-Washing Wear and HYDRO here at Delilah.
Grab them online or come in and see us. Say hi while you’re here.
Brandon’s curls were ready for a freshen up and a reshape.
Dani got in there dry and carved out some fabulous shape, creating something classic but definitely not boring. A cut that works with his natural curl pattern, brings his features forward and lets the curls do what they naturally do best.
Then it was just a little HYDRO to refresh, reset and add some moisture without weighing anything down or making the product visible.
No forcing. No taming. No trying to turn his curls into something they’re not.
Just healthy, beautiful curls with a really good haircut.
This is dry-cutting for curly hair, wash-and-wear hair and natural texture. Working with the way the hair actually lives, rather than fighting it.
Hair that’s been somewhere.
A little lived-in. A little wild. A little bit of everything.
At Delilah, we work with your natural hair texture rather than trying to iron it, tame it or make it behave like someone else’s.
Curly, wavy, straight, fine, thick, frizzy, fluffy or somewhere in between. We dry-cut hair so we can see exactly how it lives, moves and falls, and let the cut do the work.
Because we’re not really interested in perfect hair.
We’re interested in wash-and-wear hair.
Hair that looks good when you wash it yourself. Hair that doesn’t need an hour of styling to become itself. Hair that still looks like you.
And our Delilah Made products are made for exactly that kind of hair. Easy, wearable hair care for refreshing, defining, adding texture and helping your natural texture do its thing.
Dry-cutting. Curly hair. Wavy hair. Natural texture. Wash-and-wear hair.
Hair that’s been somewhere.
That’s Delilah.
Everyone loves their hair on holiday.
The salt, the sun, the water. That slightly wild, undone texture that somehow makes your hair look better than when you actually try.
So we bottled it.
TEX is our oil-free textural spray for beachy waves, texture and volume. Made with grapefruit water, Japanese vodka, wheat protein, aloe vera, glycerin and a little beach-level salt. It gives hair that salty, touchable, just-got-out-of-the-water feeling without leaving it dry or crunchy.
Salt Cream is the other half of the story. A hydrating curl cream with shea butter, wheat protein, moisturisers and a touch of salt, giving curls and waves soft definition, movement and that effortless beach-hair finish.
Use them together for beachy curls and waves, or separately depending on what your hair needs.
Basically, a little piece of holiday hair, bottled and jarred.
