Blondes get all the attention on here, so let me redress the balance, because a beautifully done brunette is one of the most underrated things in my chair. This one's a rich, deep base with ribbons of warm caramel and honey woven all the way through, the kind of dimension that catches the light and moves as she moves. Finished with a big glossy blowout and enough bounce to make a shampoo commercial jealous. It's warm, it's glamorous, it's grown-up without being safe, and she wears it with the sort of confidence you can't cut or colour into someone, they just have it. Brunettes, consider this your reminder that your colour can have every bit as much life as any blonde. You just need someone who knows how to build it.

Short hair gets a bad rap for being the "safe" or "low maintenance" option, and cuts like this are my rebuttal. There's nothing safe about it. A sharp graduation through the back gives it shape and lift, the long sweeping fringe softens the whole thing and keeps it feminine, and the blonde has been worked through with enough dimension that it catches the light differently depending on how she moves. This is precision cutting and clever colour doing their jobs together, and when it lands like this, short hair is honestly hard to beat. It takes confidence to wear, and she's got it in spades.

You can tell everything you need to know about a haircut from the face someone makes when they see it finished, and this is the face I'm chasing every day. Bright, sunny blonde with a soft wave brushed through it, fresh and glowing and exactly what she was after. But forget the hair for a second, look at that smile. That's the bit I love most about this job, not the colour or the cut in isolation, but the moment someone turns to the mirror and lights up. She walked out beaming, and honestly that never gets old. Some days this job is a lot of hard work. Days like this, it's the best job in the world.

People always see the after. The glossy blonde, the perfect balayage, the colour that makes someone tear up a little in the mirror. What they don't see is this bit, and honestly it's my favourite part. Me at the sink with a bowl and a whisk, mixing tones like some sort of deranged Picasso, convinced that this exact ratio is going to be the one that sings. Colour is art and chemistry in equal measure, and the creative bit happens here, long before it ever touches anyone's hair. There's a real quiet joy in it, the mixing, the mess, the maths, the moment where you just know you've got it right. Then the fun really begins.

There's a certain kind of client who walks in knowing exactly who she is, and she's always a joy to have in the chair. This is one of them. Rather than fighting the grey, we leaned right into it, blending a cool blonde through the natural silver so the two work together instead of against each other, then cutting a textured pixie that sits soft and sharp all at once. Short hair like this takes real skill to get right, because there's nowhere to hide, every line has to earn its place. But when it comes together on someone who wears it with this much confidence, it's some of the most satisfying work I do. She looked absolutely brilliant, and honestly the photo speaks for itself.

People forget I don't just do colour and I don't just do the ladies. The blokes get the same attention, and honestly a good men's cut is one of the most satisfying things I do. This one's grown out with a bit of length, shaped so it falls back off the face naturally, with some subtle dimension worked through the top to give it life. The best part is he can wash it, push it back with his fingers and walk out the door looking like this. No product wrestling, no fuss. That's what a proper cut gives you, hair that works with you instead of against you. Fellas, if your hair routine is just crossing your fingers and hoping, there's a better way.

People always assume my favourite work is the big bold colour, and don't get me wrong, I love it. But there's something about a beautifully cut bob with natural shine that I'll never get tired of. No extravagant colour on this one, just a sharp shape, a soft wave through the ends, and the kind of gloss that only comes from healthy hair looked after properly. It looks effortless, which is the whole trick, because effortless hair is usually the most considered of the lot. She looked stunning walking out, and this photo doesn't even do it justice.

I'll let you in on a secret. Half the magic isn't what I do in the chair, it's what you do with your hair for the weeks after you leave. I can give you the cut and the colour, but the day-to-day upkeep is on you, and the right products make all the difference between hair that still looks fresh at week six and hair that's given up by week two. That's why I keep a proper range on the shelf, all of it chosen by me, none of it there to just fill space. So next time you're in, have a chat with me about what your hair actually needs. Dry, damaged, colour that's fading too fast, whatever it is, there's something here that'll help, and I'd rather set you up properly than watch good hair go to waste.

Not every day in the chair is soft caramel and creamy blonde, and thank goodness for that. Sam walked in, told me to do something bold, and actually meant it, which is the green light I live for. So we went electric blue melting down into acid green, finished with a sharp little crop that gives the whole thing attitude. It takes a certain kind of person to wear colour like this and wear it well, and she absolutely does. I love my balayage clients dearly, but the bold ones let me properly play, and that's where the fun lives. Show me the boldest hair you've ever had in the comments, I want to see it.
