Pokemon fan game talk -
Ai is changing the game.
We use it to help a lot for bugs and other things (locally), but far out people are 100% leaning on it and doing things quicker. I have a strong slice in the game engine known as Godot, but I genuinely think for the Pokemon project I could build this much sooner and just as good, there would be a performance trade off though. But development time would be cut in half. Maybe quicker.
I'm playing around with it today it's insane how quick I can test new features.
Typically I love GDScript as a coding language as Godot is very easy to use. But people who've never been in Game Development are punching out little projects in a weekend with ThreeJS. They will get some nastry surprises when they try launch on Steam, but I'm not launching a trademarked fan game on steam. Obviously.
Oddly enough, I gave up on 2.5d in Godot. Except in todays ThreeJs tests it's working far easier.
If you didn't see my last post. My creature capture game is still the dream, but the market is saturated and I'm a Pokemon fan through and through and we all want that dream Pokemon game that Nintendo refuses to deliver. So why not make it? I won't make money on it. But it will be fullfilling.
I have other things I'm working on behind the scenes, but I feel this is something you would all be most excited about. I have another project code named DAH. That I hope I can launch a Kickstarter for at some stage. But it's not where I want it to be yet. ( I started it late last year) and the balance between this two games actually helps me reset.
What would you prefer?
2D Pokemon game, better performance. Comes later.
2.5D Pokemon game, comes a lot sooner. Some performance trade offs.
Both will have the same battle system, same love and effort in them, different loading times and special effects might be dipped a bit to run better. Overall, same story, same characters, same features regardless. Although, 2.5D does feel better already. Just something special about it. One perk of the ai slop is Sue-tendo will have too many projects to worry about before they crack down on my free open source game. XD
P.S about 1-2 months ago I sent a small video slice of the alpha Godot build to a few of our followers who've been interactive and here from the start. They can call anything out in the comments.
I hope you're all doing well. Thanks for sticking around.
