MYTH: People with autism don’t want friends or relationships.
FACT: Many autistic people deeply value connection — they may simply communicate, socialise, or express interest in ways that differ from neurotypical norms.
Autistic individuals often build friendships through shared interests, predictable routines, and meaningful one‑on‑one interactions. Connection is absolutely wanted — it just might look different. When we understand and respect those differences, relationships can flourish.
Key reminder: Communication differences are not a lack of desire for connection. They’re just differences.

So, the school has called and they've said your child needs an IEP. But… what does that actually mean?
An IEP (Individual Education Plan) is a personalised plan created to support your child’s learning at school.
It helps teachers understand:
Your child’s strengths
Areas where they need support
Learning goals
Classroom adjustments and strategies that can help them succeed
An IEP might include:
Extra time for tasks or assessments
Modified work or learning goals
Sensory or movement breaks
Organisation and executive function supports
Small group or targeted support
Strategies that match your child’s unique learning profile
An IEP is not a label.
It is a tool designed to help your child access learning, build confidence and experience success at school.
Whether your child has ADHD, autism, dyslexia, learning differences, anxiety, or simply needs extra support, an IEP creates a shared plan between families, teachers and support staff.
Because every child deserves to learn in a way that works for their brain.
Have questions about IEPs or school supports? Drop them below or contact us at and we can meet to discuss new IEP's or help you create an IEP that works for your child's individual needs.

Sometimes the traditional way of teaching doesn’t fit into every child’s way of learning!! You just have to find what works for them!!
This week I worked with a student creating Minecraft castles to facilitate a medieval Europe assessment! He created a blueprint, cost analysis and created the final product in Minecraft Education so proud of what he was able to achieve!!
At Edspire Learning Co, we believe differences should be understood, supported and celebrated — because there is no one “right” way to think, learn or be. 🤍

Did you know that many children seem to "hold it together" all day at school, only to completely fall apart when they get home?
If you've ever wondered, "Why are they melting down now?"—you're not alone. After-school meltdowns are incredibly common, especially for neurodiverse children. After a full day of concentrating, following rules, managing sensory input and masking their emotions, home becomes the place where they finally feel safe enough to let those big feelings out.
Here are three simple ways you can help reduce after-school meltdowns.

Did You Know?
Around 1 in 10 people have dyslexia.
That’s about 3 students in a classroom of 30.
Dyslexia isn’t linked to intelligence—it’s a different way of processing language. With the right support, people with dyslexia can thrive.
Understanding is the first step.
