My goal with every couple I marry is to create happy memories that will last a lifetime. As of 19th December 2025, my husband and I have now been married 51 years. It's a long time I agree; but when you're busy working, saving, bringing up a family, more working ... time just gets away from you.
Being a celebrant means that I can help couples make their dream day reality. Whether they have definite ideas of how it has to be or not, my goal is to ensure the end result reflects their style and outlook on life. It never ceases to amaze how different couples can be. Yet, that's the joy of my job - being responsive to their perceived humour, quirkiness, sentimentality, love for sharing with others; or, at the other end of the spectrum, their very real need for privacy. Only good communication determines what a couple wants. With so few elements of a wedding mandatory, the scope for creativity is almost limitless.

No, I wasn't singing .. but the bride was laughing and the groom was just loving seeing his wife so happy and relaxed. Of course every wedding is different. Yesterday I married a couple in their backyard with only two witnesses present. Their gorgeous little girl joined us for the entire ceremony ... and when it was all over, their son appeared. I suspect he was just waiting for the celebration to begin and his Mum and Dad to not look so serious. As you can see from photos here, backyard weddings are still a favourite for so many couples, because green foliage is soothing; familiar territory is relaxing; and that dappled shade is great for photos.

On 1 November, I married Taylor and Corey at Ballina Byron Islander Resort. Since afternoon rain had been forecast, the undercover spot, by the pool, proved a surprisingly private, lovely spot. In front of close family and friends they happily tied the knot. Interestingly, after the ceremony, a number of people approached and congratulated me for such an entertaining, light-hearted wedding.

On Saturday 25/10/2025, I married a lovely young couple who wanted their ceremony to be as informal as possible. With only 25 guests in attendance, they chose to have their legals only ceremony under a huge old fig, alongside Pearces Creek Hall. The creative setup was simple, as you can see from the carefully dressed tree branch. Better still the bride and groom agreed to dress casually, even doing away with shoes and standing on a rug placed over the exposed fig roots.
When the bride and groom read aloud their heartfelt vow statements, there wasn't a dry eye to be seen.

Yesterday I married a lovely couple in Byron Bay. The wedding was originally going to take place on a beach, but the timing of high tide and recent beach erosion led to a change of venue. The bride's mother's small, hedged little garden was perfect for a private, intimate, legals only wedding, attended by close family. Their marriage had been registered by mid-afternoon yesterday and when the bride checked her emails last night and saw their marriage was offical, this was her response: "Today was absolutely perfect! You made our day just how we wanted it. We are so happy!

Today I received photos from one of my favourite couples. Back in July, Hannah and Sam chose to have an intimate 'legals only' ceremony with just a few of their favourite people present in a private courtyard in Byron Bay. They were totally happy to finally become Mr and Mrs in their own style.
