CARD SURCHARGES ARE GOING. CARD FEES AREN’T.

From 1 October 2026, separate card surcharges will end on most debit and credit card payments.

Clear, upfront pricing is a good thing. But every time a customer taps their card, small businesses will still pay a processing fee.

Those costs don’t disappear. They must either be absorbed by businesses already operating on tight margins or built into the prices paid by everyone — including customers who pay cash.

Official Parliament of Australia petition EN10338 asks the Australian Government to require banks to cover electronic payment-processing costs.

If you believe these fees shouldn’t simply be pushed onto small businesses and, inevitably, their customers, please add your name.

The petition closes on 2 September 2026.
