PLLA, CaHA, PCL, PDLLA or HA — what’s the difference?

Understanding injectable materials starts with what they are made of, how they work and how their effects develop.

✧ PLLA — Poly-L-lactic acid
Biodegradable polymer particles that stimulate gradual collagen production. Early fullness from fluid and swelling is not the same as new collagen.

✧ CaHA — Calcium hydroxylapatite
Mineral microspheres in a carrier gel. The gel can provide early volume, while collagen stimulation develops over time. Dilution changes the filling effect.

✧ PCL — Polycaprolactone
Biodegradable polymer microspheres, commonly formulated with a carrier gel, combining early filling effects with gradual collagen stimulation.

✧ PDLLA — Poly-D,L-lactic acid
Biodegradable polymer particles that can stimulate collagen production. Particle structure varies, and some formulations also contain HA.

✧ HA — Hyaluronic acid
A water-binding material used in different injectable formulations for hydration, skin quality and/or volume. Its effects depend on the formulation and gel properties.

One important distinction: hyaluronidase can break down HA, but it does not dissolve PLLA, CaHA, PCL or PDLLA particles. Dissolving HA also does not guarantee complete or risk-free reversal.

There is no single best material for everyone. Suitability depends on the exact product, anatomy, medical history, goals and clinical assessment.

All injectable treatments carry risks, including bruising, swelling, infection and nodules. Rare vascular complications can cause skin damage or permanent vision loss.

At BalaBala Laser Clinic, PRF may be discussed for selected under-eye concerns, skin texture, fine lines or acne scarring. The treatment area matters: under-eye anatomy, full-face skin quality and scar-focused planning are not approached in exactly the same way.

Your BalaBala journey starts with skin analysis and consultation. We discuss your concern, medical history, anatomy, alternatives, expected recovery and whether PRF is reasonable for you. When PRF is selected, a small sample of your own blood is processed promptly using BalaBala’s T-Lab® swing-out rotor system before targeted clinical use.

PRF also sits within BalaBala’s wider skin menu, which includes VIVACE RF Microneedling, Fotona SmoothEye, Fotona Fractional and other skin-quality options. These are consultation pathways—not automatic treatment combinations.
