Most people think the biggest health problem is sitting too much.
New research suggests the better question might be:
๐๐ผ๐ ๐บ๐๐ฐ๐ต ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐ ๐บ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด?
A recent study found that higher daily step counts helped offset many of the health risks associated with sedentary behaviour.
Another study of older adults found that more moderate-to-vigorous physical activity was associated with better physical and mental function as we age, while more sedentary time was associated with greater decline.
The takeaway?

Sometimes a walk, stretch break or a few extra minutes of movement may be more valuable than you think.
What's your favourite way to move more during the day?

Many people are surprised to learn that arthritis can affect muscles as well as joints.
When a joint becomes painful or inflamed, nearby muscles often work harder to help support and stabilise it. Over time, this extra workload may contribute to muscle fatigue and aches.
Research also suggests that joint discomfort can lead people to move less, which may result in muscle weakness and reduced physical function over time.
The good news?
โ
Strength training may help support the muscles that protect your joints.
โ
Regular gentle movement may help maintain mobility and reduce stiffness.
โ
Managing inflammation, staying active and looking after overall health can support both muscle and joint wellbeing.
Looking after your muscles may be just as important as looking after your joints when living with arthritis.
Have you noticed muscle fatigue or weakness alongside arthritis symptoms?
A question I occasionally hear in the wellness industry is:
"Would you still care about helping me if I wasn't paying for this session?"
I understand why people ask it.
When someone comes in for a massage, they're often carrying more than just physical tension. Pain, stress, burnout, grief, anxiety, and life challenges can all show up on the treatment table. Over time, trust develops, and it's natural for clients to wonder whether that care and support is genuine or simply part of the service they're paying for.
For many people, their experiences of being cared for have come with expectations, conditions, or obligations attached. So asking whether the care is real can be less about the therapist and more about their own experiences and beliefs around support, trust, and relationships.
In a therapeutic massage setting, professional boundaries matter. The fee creates a clear and safe space where the focus is entirely on the client. They don't need to worry about giving anything back, taking care of the practitioner's emotions, or feeling like they're a burden.
Do I care about my clients' wellbeing? Absolutely.
Is massage therapy also my profession and livelihood? Of course.
These two things can exist together. Being paid for a professional service doesn't make the care any less genuine. In many ways, those professional boundaries are what allow clients to feel safe, supported, and fully looked after during their time in the clinic.

Stress seems to be part of modern life, but research suggests there are ways to manage it more effectively.
Studies have found that massage therapy may help reduce cortisol, commonly known as the stress hormone. Research has also shown associations with increased serotonin and dopamine, which play a role in mood and relaxation.
Even a short seated massage during the workday may provide an opportunity to pause, reset and refocus.
At Adelaide Massage Health & Wellness, we regularly see people incorporating massage into their overall wellbeing routine as part of their stress management strategy.
How do you manage stress during a busy week?
A common theme appeared across several health stories this week: staying active, maintaining muscle strength, and looking after our long-term health may matter more than many people realise.
From new findings on exercise and pain, to muscle health after 60, healthy ageing, arthritis management, and brain health, these stories all highlight how everyday habits can influence how we move, feel, and function as we age.
While none of these updates offer quick fixes, they do provide useful reminders that small, consistent actions can add up over time.
