Hi guys, back in the studio after my little trip to the motherland. Been a joy this week seeing your beautiful dreads again. Damn you guys rock amazing Dreadies!! Didn't see many Dreadheads in the UK which was super odd...they must have been hiding 🤣 and the ones I did see were super natty...
Anyways great to be back in Oz and seeing you all again Loves G x
I've known these dreadlocks from the very beginning, and it's been an absolute joy to care for them over the years. Even more special has been getting to know the incredible human wearing them.
One of the beautiful things about this work is that clients often become friends. You share stories, milestones, laughter, and years of life together. So while it was finally time to say goodbye to these dreadlocks after all this time, it was never goodbye to the friendship.
Dreadlocks may come and go, but the connections we make along the way are what truly last. ❤️

Thinning is never an easy conversation to have with a client... but it's one we believe is so important.
The photo shows an area where a large dreadlock was installed in one of the finest, most delicate sections of the scalp. Over time, the constant weight and tension have caused significant thinning. This is known as traction alopecia.
Had this dreadlock remained in place, there's a very real chance this section could have become completely bald, and in some cases, that hair loss can become permanent.
Not every part of the scalp is suitable for dreadlocks. The hair above and around the temples is naturally much finer for many people, especially women, those with fine hair, and those over 40, when hair density and strength can naturally decrease.
This is why we almost always recommend avoiding dreadlocks in this area, or keeping them very small and lightweight if they are installed at all. Every head of hair is different, and a good loctician should always work with what your hair can safely support—not just what looks balanced.
If you've noticed your dreadlocks feeling tighter than usual, your scalp becoming sore, or the hair around your temples starting to thin, please don't ignore it. Acting early can make all the difference.
There are many excellent products available that help support a healthy scalp and hair follicles, but the most important step is removing the source of the tension. Sometimes that means downsizing a dreadlock, relocating it, or removing the temple dreadlocks altogether to allow the area the best chance to recover.
Healthy hair should always come before having one more dreadlock. Our goal is for you to enjoy your dreadlocks for many years—not to sacrifice the long-term health of your hair to keep them today.

Some kind works from a lovely student
'If you’re thinking of joining a dreadlock course, this is the one!!
I’ve done both Foundations & Masters. Both are equally brilliant in their own rights.
From learning the “Foundations” of Loc making, the process, the techniques, client care & dread tech wellbeing along with all the content. As a starting point foundations gave me an excellent start in all things dreadlocks.
I followed up with Masters, which goes in depth with all things hair extensions, the difference fibres, the process of making woollen dreads, installation of extensions, further business processes & more self care.
The support & mentoring from Ginnie is next level & unwavering. From the hands on training weekends to monthly team meetings, messages & being only a phone call away. Then there’s the collaboration, the opportunity to work side by side gaining invaluable experience.
I highly recommend reaching out Black Cockatoo Dreadlocks Newcastle for all of your dread training needs.'

People often think they’ve “missed” the chance to join the course because the Live Trainings are only held a few times a year…
But that’s actually not how it works ✨
There are three courses,
👉🏼 FOUNDATIONS
👉🏼 MASTERS
👉🏼 WIZARDS
and TWO ways to train with Black Cockatoo Dreadlocks:
🌿 IN-PERSON TRAINING
You begin inside the online course portal first, then attend a Live Weekend Training once your online learning is completed.
The live weekends are designed to deepen your skills, build confidence and give hands-on practice.
Remaining 2026 Live Trainings:
FOUNDATIONS
• August
• October
• December
MASTERS

OR
🔮 WIZARDS COURSE PORTAL
The fully online version of both courses.

If you haven’t moved across to the amazing hair-changing Hair Story New Wash, here’s your sign!
And there’s a great promo running — but it finishes TONIGHT!!
This is honestly one of the best products I’ve ever used on hair, especially for Dreadies and overall scalp + hair health.
And the Pre-Wash? Absolute game changer. It completely changes everything when it comes to buildup, scalp microbiome, scalp comfort and keeping your locs feeling fresh without stripping the hair, and weighing down of shampoos detergents!
If you’ve been curious, now’s the time to grab it while the promo is on.
