HARARE — A four-man gang that used fi****ms and commercial explosives to rob schools and wholesale shops across Harare has been sentenced to a combined 200 years in prison by the Harare Regional Court.
Magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka handed down the sentences on June 23, 2026, following the group's conviction on six counts of armed robbery. Amos Makara, 43, received an effective 59-year jail term, while his accomplices-Simbarashe Chambati, 23, Thomas Marange, 25, and Tinashe Makara, 31—were each sentenced to 47 years in prison.
State prosecutor Tariro Jani represented the prosecution during the proceedings.
According to Criminal Investigations Department (CID) spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri, the group carried out a series of violent raids targeting commercial premises and educational institutions. - Zimbo LIVE Harare
