A country where only about one in five people has access to electricity needs reliable, dispatchable power to keep homes, hospitals, schools, mines, and factories running. Thermal power can provide electricity regardless of the weather or time of day, making it valuable for stabilizing a grid that is still developing. If the project performs as planned, it could substantially reduce Burkina Faso's reliance on imported electricity and strengthen its energy security. That aligns with the country's broader goal of increasing control over its own critical infrastructure.

At the same time, Burkina Faso has excellent solar potential. Over the long term, expanding solar generation—supported by battery storage, stronger transmission networks, and complementary sources of firm power—could reduce fuel costs and emissions while improving energy resilience. For many countries, the most practical path is not thermal or solar, but thermal now, while rapidly building a future in which renewables play a much larger role.

One point is worth keeping in mind: energy projects are rarely judged by who is absent from a financing deal alone. What matters most is whether the financing terms are sustainable, the project is well managed, and it delivers reliable, affordable electricity that supports economic development.

If successful, this power plant could become an important milestone—not because it solves every energy challenge, but because dependable electricity is often the foundation upon which industrialization, job creation, healthcare, education, and broader economic growth are built.

“Without Dangote having built the biggest refinery in the world, Africa today would be sitting just like we sat during COVID-19.” — Robert Gumede

This observation captures an important lesson about the value of long-term strategic investment. Speaking at the Africa-France Summit in May 2026, South African businessman Robert Gumede praised Aliko Dangote's refinery as one of the most significant investments ever made on the African continent. He described it as "an African product produced by an African for Africa," emphasizing its contribution to strengthening Africa's energy security and reducing dependence on imported fuel.

His remarks are a reminder that Africa's future will increasingly be shaped by Africans who are willing to invest boldly in transformative industries. Such projects demonstrate that industrialization, value addition, and self-reliance are not distant aspirations but achievable goals through vision, perseverance, and disciplined ex*****on.

As Africans, we should not merely celebrate these achievements—we should study them, learn from them, and build upon them. The greatest tribute to such pioneers is to cultivate more innovators, entrepreneurs, and industrialists who will continue shaping Africa's destiny for generations to come.

What more does Africa need apart from this mindset? ✍️

A Message to Africa

My beloved Africa,
The wealth of your future does not lie merely beneath your soil, but within the minds, hearts, and hands of your people. No nation rises because of its abundance of resources alone; it rises because its people choose wisdom over division, cooperation over rivalry, and purpose over self-interest.

In all your pursuits of excellence, strive to embody the spirit of unity, for it is through cooperation that grand purposes are realized. Compete with no one except yourself each day. Seek only to become better than you were yesterday, not better than someone else. Competition is the game of fools; cooperation is the tool of the wise.

The future of Africa will not be built by one tribe, one language, one nation, or one generation. It will be built by millions of Africans who understand that their diversity is not a weakness to be feared but a strength to be embraced. The river reaches the ocean because countless streams flow together.

Let us stop measuring our greatness by what we possess individually and begin measuring it by what we create collectively. Let every school cultivate wisdom, every family nurture integrity, every institution uphold justice, and every leader become a servant of the common good.

Africa, awaken to your calling. Your destiny is not behind you but before you. The world does not need another continent divided by envy and conflict; it needs an Africa united by vision, governed by wisdom, and driven by purpose. The time to build is now. The responsibility belongs to us all.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS | BURKINA FASO 🇧🇫
Burkina Faso Makes Entrepreneurship MANDATORY in Universities
In a bold and strategic move to tackle youth unemployment and boost self-reliance, the Burkinabe government is set to revolutionize its higher education system.
Entrepreneurship will soon become a compulsory cross-cutting subject for all Bachelor's (Licence) and Master's students in both public and private universities across the country.
This major reform, driven by the Presidential Initiative for Quality Education for All (IPEQ), aims to transform graduates from job seekers into job creators. It follows recommendations from 36 expert commissions that highlighted the gap between traditional academic training and the real needs of the economy.

Alongside entrepreneurship, the new curriculum will also make English, sports, national languages, and civic & patriotic education mandatory.
The Goal:
Build a new generation of proactive, innovative young Burkinabè equipped with an entrepreneurial mindset — turning universities into powerful incubators of talent, businesses, and wealth creation for the nation.
This reform is expected to take effect from the 2026-2027 academic year.

When Samora Machel Declared War on Tribalism, Africa Stopped Breathing. In 1977, Mozambique's revolutionary leader, Samora Machel, made a statement that still provokes debate across Africa: "For the nation to live, the tribe must die." He wasn't fighting colonialism alone—he was confronting one of Africa's most enduring challenges: tribalism.

To some, these words reflected bold and visionary leadership. Machel believed that a nation divided by ethnic loyalties could never fully unite, develop, or realize its potential. To him, national identity had to rise above tribal divisions. To others, the statement sounded unsettling, even dangerous. Where is the line between overcoming tribalism and suppressing cultural identity? Can a nation be united without asking people to set aside part of who they are?

Nearly five decades later, the question remains as relevant as ever: Was Samora Machel building a stronger nation—or risking the erasure of identity in the pursuit of unity? The debate continues to echo across Africa, challenging us to consider how diversity and nationhood can coexist.

One word to remind Africans about their past is slavery, and one word to ignite their present potential is freedom and the last word for Africans to focus on is the future.
