A common question around protective styles is “how long to keep them”
This depends on different things.
1. If it’s a PS without extensions you can keep them as long as you’re comfortable with, if you opt for long term PS you need to learn how to take them down slowly and correctly, if you’re struggling with this, it’s okay to do shorter term, not everyone knows how to keep their hair from matting and tangling and how to take it down if it does
2. If it’s a PS with extensions I’d say 3-4weeks especially if they’re heavy and you can’t wash your hair often
How long you keep a PS depend on your goals and how well you know your hair and your preference. The most important thing is know how to take down your protective style without snagging/pulling and ripping at the knots

During hair consults I always tell people to think through their “why” and be sure about it. Because I promise you during your hair journey, you will hear a lot of “are you getting your hair done” “don’t you think you should unbraid “ “make your hair look presentable” people will try to make you uncomfortably about wearing your hair as it. But you need to be able to embrace your hair, black hair won’t always look “neat” but that doesn’t mean it isn’t presentable or you can wear it out

I may look okay but deep down I miss seeing my hair and styling it. I miss seeing it in its curly state 🥰🫣.

I know someone would say but why can't you take down the protective hairstyle ⁉️
A few weeks ago I had somewhere very important to go and a friend of mine was concerned about my hair so she asked if I could take down the braids,blow my hair,flat iron and style it so that I could look presentable. She was like ," you don't like wigs and your braids are old, why can't you take them down?"
I gave it a thought but again I realized there is nothing wrong with me stepping out with my braids. I can just style them and be confident enough.
It's okay to miss my hair!! However that cannot be reason enough for me to take down these braids because I had a goal from the start and I know what I want to achieve at the end of the year so I will stick to my goal.

Yes I miss my hair and today I took time to look at a few pictures just so I can remind myself of where I'm coming from and imagined how my hair will be looking like at the end of the year and that thought changes everything ☺️.

Moral of the story:- each time you embark on something be it your hair journey, business, career, relationship or anything else let your WHY be strong enough. Know your purpose and stand firm knowing very well what you want to achieve.

Another thing is, don't allow anyone to make you feel less beautiful simply because you decide to wear your natural hair because that crown is uniquely amazing 😍.
