Today would have been my mom’s 51st birthday, and I’m honoring her by bringing awareness to domestic violence.

If you’re wearing purple today, I want to see you! 💜

Drop a picture of yourself wearing purple in the comments, or post a 💜 if you’re standing with me but can’t wear purple today.

It’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and ironically, my mom’s birthday month.

I’m asking my family, friends, followers, and anyone who wants to stand with me to WEAR PURPLE on her birthday Friday, October 9th. 💜

Wear it for my mom.

Wear it for the women and children whose lives were taken.

Wear it for the survivors rebuilding their lives.

Wear it for the person who is still trying to find a way out.

Wear it for someone who may be suffering in silence.

And wear it as a reminder that domestic violence is not entertainment, gossip, or something to joke about.

For some of us, it has changed our families forever.

Let October 9th be a day of awareness, compassion, remembrance, and solidarity.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This month presents a variety of important opportunities to stand with survivors, raise awareness and strengthen our community—but our commitment does not end in October. Prevention, support and awareness are everyday responsibilities that matter all year long. Listening without judgment, connecting people to resources and speaking up can make a difference every day.

Join us at our upcoming events as we show support, foster unity and reaffirm that domestic violence has no place in our community. Together, we can promote prevention and support survivors. For assistance or to learn about available resources, contact the Army Community Service Family Advocacy Program at (910) 396-5521.

Help is available. If you know someone who needs help, call the 24/7 Family Violence Hotline at (910) 322-3418. Dial 9-1-1 if you or someone you know is in immediate danger.
