Is this my life? Excuse me while I go squeal in GenX. 🤯

This might not be what you’ve been hoping for…

Hey kiddos.

I appreciate how much you all have been invested in my dates with Tony. We had a second date on Saturday night and it was lovely. Romantic, great conversation. And we did talk about what we were both looking for.

Truth be told, kiddos, your Aunt LBD has had a s**tty picker in her past. I have chosen men who were good men in some ways, but weren’t good partners for me. And I spent decades in relationships, sitting next to someone on the couch—and still feeling very lonely.

These days, at 55, I’m not sure what my romantic life is going to look like. Honestly, I’m not even sure if I want just one person again.

And when Tony asked me what I was looking for, I was so proud of myself because I was completely honest —with him and myself. I told him I haven’t given up on the idea of finding one person that I’d like to spend the rest of my life with, but that I’m in no rush to add someone to my already wonderful life. He said he is feeling the same way. But, we both agreed to that we like spending time with each other and that more dates are probably in our future.

So, this isn’t necessarily the end of the Tony and Retta story— but it might only be a chapter in my life, and not a whole book.

And that’s OK.

We deserve to have it all, kiddos. In life and in love.

Don’t settle.❤️

My most requested: how I style my hair

LINKS: https://shopmy.us/shop?Curator_id=5020&Section_id=3986015

Hey kiddos!

Two weeks and all of a sudden I’m an accidental influencer! And the question I keep getting is about how I style my hair and request to see a 360° view of my haircut.

For reference, my hair is thick and coarse. I stopped coloring my hair and let my grays come in about six years ago. I am undercut from the crown down all the way around. And the top is about 4 inches long.

And don’t come at me about that damn hair dryer and the price! I know it’s expensive, but I swear that it has saved my hair as I’ve gotten older… especially my more fragile grays. I’ve been using that dryer for five years, and I swear that it has helped the health of my hair.

What would I tell to 20-year-old me?

I think about that a lot kiddos. I also think about what 20 year-old me would think of 55-year-old me.

You know what? I think she would be pretty proud. I’m still taking chances, I’m still traveling by myself, I’m still putting myself out there, I’m still making new friends. I’m fun, I stand 10 toes down on what I believe in, and I’ve become more and more true to myself as I’ve become older.

We often think about making our future selves proud, but I think it’s also equally important to make our younger versions proud. To live the life that they dreamed of before all that adulting got in the way.

The bottom line is kiddo… You’ve got time. Don’t be in a rush to get married or have a family or figure out what you wanna be for the rest of your life tomorrow. Your aunt LBD‘s life has had a lot of twists and turns—so many that I didn’t see coming.

But I wouldn’t change a thing. Because guess what? Being here on the Internet, sharing some stories and talking to all of you wasn’t on my bingo card five years ago. But staying open to possibility has brought me here.

And I love being with you, kiddos. Truly.

Dumb movie, great line.

Hey kiddos.

Over 15 years ago this movie came out and although it wasn’t the best movie, the title always stuck with me:

He’s Just Not That Into You

I thought, what a great way to process rejection. Instead of getting in our heads about what may be wrong with us for someone to not like us, not ask us on a second date, not hire us for that job, not want to be our friend anymore— that we just accept the simple fact that we won’t be for everyone.

As the kids say, the vibes aren’t vibing.

Listen, kiddo… Your Aunt Loretta knows this first hand. Not everyone loves a foul mouthed girl with a Jersey accent who’s got a rockin’ pompadour. But I gotta be me.

That simple line from a silly movie has saved me a lot of heartache over the years. Sure, it still hurts my heart when someone rejects me. No one likes to be rejected. So often people reject us before they ever get to know us. And if they haven’t even dipped their toe in the pond of all of our awesome, then we shouldn’t feel deeply hurt by someone who kept everything surface level.

Anyhoo... there’s my pearl of wisdom for today.

Thinking of you all the time, kiddo. And if you have moments of rejection from time to time, I want you to think of your Aunt LBD and look at yourself in the mirror and say, “they’re just not that into me. And that’s OK.”

Because the kind of people you should have in your life should be the ones who want to sit in the front row of your life and cheer on everything that you do. Don’t settle for the people who come in the back door and stand there for five minutes and decide that they don’t want to stay for the show. We want the ones who stick around for the second curtain call. ❤️👏

I love you kiddo.

Comment CONFIDENCE to get some awesome in your inbox.💌

Hey kiddos.

I get inspiration from the darndest places—and this week I’m pulling inspiration from Tupac Shakur and Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer.

I know it sounds crazy, right? But I think it will make sense once you watch it.

We’ve all heard that expression, “fake it ‘til you make it”— and today’s lesson about confidence illustrates that. One simple change in your physical presence can affect how you feel inside. How you carry yourself can affect what you think of yourself. I’m a firm believer in that.

Sometimes we have to start with a small change, and that small change can move mountains in how we feel about ourselves.

So, keep your head up this week and go smack ‘em upside the head with all of your awesome. And get back to me and let me know if you found this tip helpful.

And while you’re out there in the world being awesome, know that your aunt LBD loves you very much.

There’s going to be a second date with Tony the Butcher

Geez have you guys been up my ass ever since my date waiting to know if there’s going to be a second one!

The short answer is yes. I saw Tony on Friday and we planned a date for next weekend. Stay tuned.

But also, I want this to be a lesson for all of you— you are not on anyone else’s timeline to determine if someone is right for you. Don’t let anyone pressure you into a second date or to jump into a relationship with them until you feel like it’s the right time for you.

It’s a lesson that it’s taken your Aunt Loretta 55 years to learn— the right ones will be OK with you taking your time. They will just be happy to spend that time with you. Of course, you never want to string anyone along… but a healthy relationship will happen when someone respects your pacing.

And you are worth waiting for, kiddo.😉

I love you, kiddo.
