Not all elderberry syrups are made the same, and the label doesn't always make that easy to see.
Next time you're comparing bottles, here's what to look for:
→ What did the product start with - fresh berries, dried berries, or concentrate?
→ Does the label tell you how much elderberry is actually in each serving?
→ If it lists a milligram amount, what is that number actually measuring?
For us, it always starts with fresh, whole elderberries. We press the berries ourselves and never use concentrate. 💜

The garden is slowly winding down while things in the kitchen are really picking up!
These last few weeks have been busy in the kitchen! We bottled Fire C***r, welcomed our fresh elderberry delivery from the farm and pressed lots and lots of berries for Elderberry Syrup. Chai and Spiced Honey are next up!
I’m keeping an eye on the luffa drying on the vine and hoping to squeeze in one last harvest of the potted herbs before the season is over.
It’s such a full time of year and I love getting to work with plants in so many different ways as the seasons change. 💜
Our Elderberry Spiced Honey is a solar slow-infused honey made with wildflower honey, organic elderberry, ginger root, Ceylon cinnamon, and clove bud.
The herbs and spices are gently sun-infused into raw, unfiltered wildflower honey for at least two weeks, creating a rich, warming flavor and a naturally beautiful pink hue from the elderberry.
With its cozy blend of warming spices, it’s the perfect addition to your fall kitchen rituals, drizzle it over some oatmeal, baked goods, homemade granola, or stir it into a warm cup of tea!
The best Elderberry Syrup starts with the berry itself. Ours begins with fresh, whole, certified-organic Midwest-grown elderberries. 🌿
Our growers allow their elderberries time to reach peak ripeness, developing that beautiful deep-purple color before harvest.
From there, we fresh press the whole berries - never from concentrate. Many small-batch elderberry syrups begin with dried berries simmered in water, much like making a strong tea.
For us, fresh pressing is about working with the berry in its fresh, whole-fruit form and preserving as much of its character as possible - its juice, beautiful color and plant compounds.
It’s a labor-intensive, hands-on process, but one we’ve chosen intentionally because we believe the quality of what goes into the bottle matters.

There’s a lot that goes into every batch of our Fire C***r. 🔥
Starting with fresh plant material - LOTS of grated ginger, horseradish, turmeric, onion, garlic, habanero, citrus, rosemary, thyme, dried elderberries + rainbow peppers - completely submerged it in raw apple c***r vinegar.
From there, we let it slowly infuse for four weeks. Then, the entire infusion is cold pressed to capture all of that bold, spicy, goodness and finished with raw, unfiltered wildflower honey to balance the tartness and heat.
Fresh ingredients. Slow infusion. Small batch. Always made with intention and care. 💜

The garden is slowing down in this heat for sure and I’m harvesting what remains while dreaming about what is possible for next spring. 🪻
I’m envisioning expanding beyond our fenced garden and adding more flowers and herbs up the east hill - different varieties of lavender, white yarrow, holy basil and more!
We’ll keep our current raised bed garden area as a place to grow, experiment and continue learning. And the chickens will stay close by! We love "chicken TV" - getting to hear and watch them while working in the garden. 💜
I'm learning that a garden is never really finished, which is the joy of it! There’s always something to learn and another season to dream about. 🌱
Before elderberries ever reach our kitchen, they’ve been carefully tended by growers and their families for months.
🌿 Certified-organic growing methods
💧 Carefully managed irrigation
🌱 Ongoing attention to plant health
🫐 Hand harvested at peak ripeness
Because elderberries don’t all ripen at once, our growers make multiple passes through the fields, selecting only the ripest clusters by hand.
That attention to detail and extreme care in the field is where it all begins.
