The Living Room Wellness Center
A radically inclusive healing space. Come as you are. Healing begins with safety. Living rooms are often the center of the home. It is a place for growing.
The place where we socialize, find solitude, relax and make memories. Living rooms are often a reflection of the people who use them. Living rooms can also hold trauma memories for those who grew up in homes where there was more "surviving" than "living." The Living Room Wellness Center is a place where healing happens. Most of all, it is a place where people can find themselves "living" again. The Living Room Wellness Center is a safe place for ALL people who embody kindness. We are an unapologetically inclusive space and strive to provide services to marginalized groups who struggle to find wellness support in Springfielld and the surrounding area.

We're coming to Joplin.
After years of building something we genuinely believe in, The Living Room Wellness Center is opening its doors to our Joplin community on October 15th.
This isn't just another therapy practice. We're creating a space built around actual conversations. Around meeting you where you are, not where someone's treatment manual says you should be. Around the belief that healing happens when you feel safe enough to show up as yourself.
We've designed this for real people navigating real lives. For folks exploring their identity. For those working through anxiety, depression, trauma, or major life changes. For couples and families trying to figure it out. For anyone who's ever wanted a therapist, not a diagnosis.
Whether you've tried therapy before and it didn't land, or you're seeking support for the first time, there's room for you here.
LGBTQIA+ affirming. Neurodiversity affirming. Sex-positive. Body-positive. Culturally responsive. All identities, relationships, and family structures are welcome.
Ready to have an actual conversation?

See you October 15th.

September is Su***de Prevention & Awareness Month.
At The Living Room, we believe people deserve a place where they can tell the truthβeven when the truth is, βI donβt want to be here anymore.β
Suicidal thoughts do not make someone dramatic, selfish, attention-seeking, or broken. They often show us that a person is carrying more pain than they know how to carry alone.
So we want to say this clearly:
You do not have to make your pain more palatable before you ask for help.
You do not have to wait until it becomes an emergency.
And you do not have to have the right words.
Check on your people. Ask the uncomfortable question. Listen without trying to fix everything. Take someone seriously when they tell you they are struggling.
And if youβre the one struggling: you deserve support while youβre still here.
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. In the U.S., call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

Look, we're not anti-wellness. Breathing exercises help. Meditation has value. Self-care matters. But somewhere along the way, the self-help industry convinced people that if they just do the right breathing technique or follow the right morning routine, they can think their way out of depression, anxiety, trauma, and generational patterns.
Spoiler: they can't.
Some things require more than a pause and a deep breath. Some things require someone trained to help you understand what's actually happening. Someone who can sit with you while you process grief. Someone who can help you untangle patterns you've carried your whole life. Someone who gets that healing isn't just about feeling calmer... it's about actually changing.
Breathing exercises are a tool. But they're not the whole toolbox.
At The Living Room Wellness, we support all of it. We support you taking care of yourself. And we also support you showing up for real therapy. The kind where something actually shifts. Where you move from just surviving to actually living.
You don't have to choose between self-care and real support.
You get both.
LGBTQIA+ affirming. Neurodiversity affirming. Sex-positive. Body-positive. Culturally responsive. All identities, relationships, and family structures are welcome here.

Mindfulness is great.
Until grief takes over.
Or depression resurfaces.
Or someone triggers you in just the right way to bring forward more generational trauma patterns you haven't even seen exist in you yet.
Healing isn't linear. And while mindfulness may be enough during some periods of life, others require real human support. The kind where you're not managing your symptoms alone. The kind where someone sits with you in the complexity and helps you understand what's actually happening beneath the surface.
There's nothing wrong with you for needing more than a breathing app can offer. That's not a sign you're failing at wellness. That's a sign you're ready to do the deeper work. The work that requires someone trained to help you untangle patterns, process what's been stuck, and actually move through it instead of just coping with it.
At The Living Room Wellness, we're not here to sell you another self-care hack. We're here to provide the kind of support that changes things.
Real therapy. Real conversation. Real partnership in your healing.
Mindfulness has its place. But so does sitting across from someone who actually understands what you're carrying and can help you work through it.
LGBTQIA+ affirming. Neurodiversity affirming. Sex-positive. Body-positive. Culturally responsive. All identities, relationships, and family structures are welcome here.

Meet Tara Garrity. She's ready to help you figure it out.
At The Living Room Wellness, we believe therapy should feel like an actual conversation with someone who gets it. Someone who isn't working from a script. Someone who sees you as a whole person navigating real life, not just a diagnosis to treat.
That's exactly what you get with Tara.
Tara is a licensed clinical social worker with nearly two decades of experience supporting adults through identity exploration, life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, and everything in between. She's spent her career working with marginalized and underserved communities, and she has a particular passion for supporting members of the LGBTQ+ community, especially transgender and gender-expansive individuals.
Here's what makes her different: Tara doesn't see therapy as something that happens to you. She sees it as a partnership. She tailors every session to who you actually are and what you actually need, drawing from evidence-based approaches like CBT, EMDR, and Brainspotting. But more than her credentials or her techniques, what clients appreciate about Tara is her genuine care. She shows up with humor, strength-based support, and an unwavering belief in your capacity to grow.
Whether you're figuring out your identity, navigating a major life change, or working through anxiety and trauma, Tara creates the kind of space where you can show up exactly as you are. No editing required.
LGBTQIA+ affirming. Neurodiversity affirming. Sex-positive. Body-positive. Culturally responsive. All identities, relationships, and family structures are welcome here.

Look, we know the playbook.
Someone suggests deep breathing, grounding techniques, maybe a visualization. And sure, those things have their place. But if you're sitting in front of a therapist while your entire world is imploding, the last thing you need is someone asking you to count your breaths.
Sometimes therapy means sitting with the immediate crisis before you get to the root causes. That pragmatism and compassion aren't mutually exclusive.
At The Living Room Wellness, we meet you where you actually are. Not where wellness culture says you should be. Not where a predetermined treatment plan assumes you are. We see what's urgent, what needs attention right now, and we work from there. The deeper work happens when the fire is manageable enough to think clearly.
Whether you're navigating acute anxiety, relationship chaos, identity questions, grief, trauma, or just trying to figure out how to keep your head above waterβwe're not here to bypass where you're really at. We're here to work with it.
Therapy shouldn't require you to edit yourself before you walk through the door. Come as you are. We'll handle the rest.
LGBTQIA+ affirming. Neurodiversity affirming. Sex-positive. Body-positive. Culturally responsive. All identities, relationships, and family structures are welcome here.

Let's get real about where you are right now.
**COMING SOON TO JOPLIN 10/15**

What if the first step wasn't analyzing your feeling...but actually feeling safe enough to share them?
We get it. You've probably tried therapy before and walked away feeling like you just spent an hour being questioned by someone reading from an invisible script. Perfect technique, perfect insight, perfect nothing that actually helped you breathe easier.
Here's what we know: healing doesn't happen in a vacuum of perfectly chosen words or textbook interventions. It happens when you're sitting across from someone who isn't waiting for you to fit a diagnosis.
Someone who gets that you're a person, not a case file.
Safety isn't something we add to the process. It's the entire foundation. It's the permission to show up as you actually are. Messy, uncertain, still figuring it out. No performance required.
At The Living Room Wellness, we start there.
Not with paperwork or predetermined pathways.
With actual presence.
With listening that goes both ways.
With room to be human in a space designed around your specific reality, not a generalized model of what healing should look like.
You deserve more than process.
You deserve to feel safe.

Here's the thing: your healing space shouldn't feel like a hospital or an interrogation room. It shouldn't be cold. It shouldn't be sterile. It shouldn't make you feel smaller when you walk in.
Real therapy happens in real spaces. With real people. With warmth.
At The Living Room Wellness, we believe your healing space should feel like a place you actually want to be.
You walk in and feel welcomed, not evaluated.
You sit somewhere comfortable, not in an awkward chair across from a desk.
You have a conversation with someone who's genuinely present, not someone hiding behind professionalism.
We laugh. We're human. We create space for your whole self to show up.
Whether you're in Springfield, Ozark, or joining us virtually, therapy should feel warm, connected, and real.
If you've been turned off by the sterile, beige-office version of therapy, we'd gently offer another possibility.
Maybe... therapy just needed better energy.
And finding the right space changes everything.

You're not broken.

"I don't know how to talk about my feelings."
"I'm worried I won't know what to say."
"What if I don't have the right words?"
"I feel stupid not understanding therapy language."
"Won't my therapist judge me for not knowing how to do this?"
If you've thought any of these things, you're not alone. And here's what we want you to know: you don't need a degree in psychology to walk into therapy. You don't need to have your thoughts organized or your emotions perfectly labeled. You don't need to speak fluent therapy before you even start.
Real therapy isn't about using the right terminology. It's about showing up real.
At The Living Room Wellness, we believe healing starts with honesty, not a vocabulary test.
We help you find the words, not the other way around.
We translate confusing feelings into things that actually make sense for your life.
We meet you exactly where you are, not where you think you should be.
You don't need to have it figured out.
You just need to be willing to explore it.
Whether you're in Springfield, Ozark, or joining us virtually (coming soon to Joplin), our therapists are here to guide you through the process, not grade you on how well you do it.
If you've avoided therapy because you weren't sure how to "do it right," we'd gently offer another possibility.
Maybe... you're already doing it exactly right by showing up.
And that changes everything.
