Entrepreneur Spotlight: Kayla Shelton, Railway Cafe

For Kayla Shelton, owning a restaurant was always a dream. When the opportunity came to open Railway Cafe in downtown Bassett, she knew it was the right fit.

Kayla created Railway Cafe to be more than a place to grab a meal. She wanted a space where families and friends could come together, enjoy good food, and connect with their community. Being part of the continued revitalization of Bassett has made building the business even more meaningful.

One of Kayla’s favorite parts of entrepreneurship is seeing the restaurant come to life through the people who walk through its doors.

“I love seeing families and friends come together over a good meal. Hearing the laughter, seeing people engage with one another, and watching people simply enjoy being together is incredibly rewarding.”

Her advice for aspiring entrepreneurs? Just do it and stick with it.

“Starting a business isn’t always easy, and there will definitely be challenges along the way, but it is always rewarding. Don’t give up when things get hard. Give it your all, believe in what you’re doing, and keep pushing forward.”

From a longtime dream to a gathering place in downtown Bassett, Kayla’s story is one worth celebrating.
