We are pleased to announce the final exhibition of work created by our 2026 Artists In Residence! Please join us on September 4 at Mutuus Studios to celebrate the opening reception of Janelle Abbott’s “Containers.”
“Containers positions the body as a container shaped by consumption and explores the life that’s lived “under the lid.” A marked departure from artist Janelle Abbott’s fashion practice, Containers features her long held zero-waste methodologies applied to assemblage, sculpture, paper making, and wearable forms. Through themes of nostalgia, self-care, technology, fashion, and sentiment—Containers considers the transitory nature of what society values and how material culture mediates our emotional, physical, and spiritual realities.” - Janelle Abbott
Opening reception: September 4, 6-9pmExhibition hours: September 5, 11-4pmExhibition open by appointment: September 7-11Closing reception: September 12, 12-4pm, artist talk at 12:30

We are pleased to announce the final exhibition of work created by our 2026 Artists In Residence! Please join us on September 4 at Mutuus Studios to celebrate the opening reception of Eirik Johnson’s “Tensile Strength.”
“Working with sculpture, sound, and photography, I have spent my residency at Recology exploring how to creatively counter the idea of progress as a constant future forward march and instead point towards alternate multi-directional paths and potential histories in the making. What happens when such potential histories, as represented by the objects we discard, are compressed, reversed, shattered, or precariously stretched to their breaking point. What new forms take shape from such tension, what new growth can spring from this entropy, and what rhythms pulse through our debris.” -Eirik Johnson
Opening reception: September 4, 6-9pmExhibition hours: September 5, 11-4pmExhibition open by appointment: September 7-11Closing reception: September 12, 12-4pm, artist talk at 12:30

Thank you, King County Solid Waste Division, for showing us Cedar Hills Regional Landfill and providing a behind-the-scenes look at where King County's garbage goes!
One of our biggest takeaways from the tour is that composting and recycling matters to help divert materials from the landfill.
⭐Composting takes materials like apple cores, fallen leaves, and other organic materials, and turns them into nutrient-rich soil. When organic materials are sent to the landfill, they break down differently and generate methane, a potent greenhouse gas.
⭐Recycling helps ensure materials like paper, cardboard, metal, and hard/ridged plastics can be made into new products. When recyclables are placed in the garbage, those valuable resources are lost and cannot be recovered."
