Help shape the future of in-space infrastructure 🛰️
The Fly Foundational Robots (FFR) demonstration mission, launching late 2027, will demonstrate a highly dexterous commercial robotic arm operating in Low Earth Orbit, capable of autonomously managing and exchanging payloads.
We’re looking for the next breakthrough that will further upgrade this robotic sidekick! If your team is developing a payload or robotic manipulation capability that could advance in‑space servicing, assembly, or exploration, these opportunities are for you.
🚨 REGISTER BY JULY 29 for NASA’s TechLeap Prize! The Robotically Manipulated Payload Challenge will select as many as 3 teams to win up to $500k + a flight test during the FFR mission: https://go.nasa.gov/4wtPvIb
Or, researching robotic manipulation, autonomy, motion planning, or related ISAM concepts? Join the Space Roboticist Challenge for the chance to work along NASA engineers and allocated experiment time with the robotic arm! Registration closes on September 23, 2026: https://go.nasa.gov/4bkS07h

Space Shuttle Discovery entered service in 1984 and retired from spaceflight as the oldest and most utilized orbiter. It launched on 39 Earth-orbital missions from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, spending a total of 365 days in space and traveling almost 150 million miles — more than any other orbiter. Discovery shuttled 184 astronauts into space and back, many of whom flew more than once, for a record-setting total crew count of 251. Space Shuttle Discovery, on display at the Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, is our featured Florida artifact.
